As I was completing my last year in high school, I was called to the school principal's office. This meeting was to change my life forever. As I was leaving, the principal looked me in the eyes and said to me, "You will be a successful leader in the profession that you decide to choose." At the time, I was a confused teenager and didn't know what these words would truly mean to me. However, those words did make me think about the future and what I wanted to do with my life after my high school graduation. After weeks of consideration, I decided I wanted to be a nurse since I always enjoyed caring for others in their time of sickness or hardship. After my high school graduation, I applied to and I was accepted into a respected nursing school known as Dr. Soliman Fakeeh College of Nursing & Medical Sciences.
During my four years at Dr. Soliman Fakeeh College of Nursing & Medical Sciences, I entered my studies with all the passion and enthusiasm that I had and more. I have been described by family members, friends, and other people in my community as being a reliable person, trustworthy, and having a strong dedication to any task at a hand. I believe these are some of the qualities a nurse should have. At times, I was faced with many challenges and difficulties which I was able to overcome with great success. I went on to graduate with a GPA of 3.41 out of 4.00. I was able to obtain an internship which involved working in different departments such as surgical, psychiatric, and emergency. I learned many techniques and scientific information during my internship. It was during my internship that I had the urge to complete my post graduate studies in the administration track.
After my internship had finished, I started to look into ways that I could further my education in the administration concentration. I would like to make positive impacts on the nursing profession by changing some ways of providing health care. I also would like to be able to be more collaborative and improve the quality of care to effectively and properly which would be delivered with a set time limit. In addition, I would like to work as an advocate for nurse's rights. With these criteria in my mind, I started looking for a master's program that suits my interests. My search had led me to apply to apply to Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
I found that Indiana University of Pennsylvania has a very modern and unique curriculum, as well as a great reputation. I truly believe this university is a suitable place that I can achieve my academic and professional goals. I want and strive to complete my master's degree in nursing administrative systems as a short term goal. My long term goal is to earn my doctorate in nursing leadership. The education I would receive at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania would help me to be a significant component of nursing professional and academic institutions, and to become an inspired leader and pioneer in nursing field.
Furthermore, I believe I have a lot to offer the community of the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. I am well rounded. I enjoy participating in extracurricular activities such as sports, volunteering in the community, mentoring other students, and organizing school's events. I believe in team work because the ability to cooperate is helpful when it comes to working with other students, as well as professors and teachers. I can help professors further the field of nursing by participating in any studies or projects they may be conducting. I have always been interested in learning new ideas. I am able to use Microsoft Office suite and other computer applications which have helped me in the past, and I believe will continue to help me in the future.
Since high school, I have become more certain about my future. I am confident that the nursing field is what I want to pursue, and have no regrets in choosing this career path. I know that, if given the right education and the right tools, I can become that successful leader that my high school principal had seen in me. I know it is possible to reach both my short term and long term goals at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. I overcome many obstacles in my past, and I am willing and able to overcome any obstacles in my future. I am ready to meet any new challenges head on.
