Free Stephanie Daley Movie Review Sample

In Stephanie Daley, the 16 year old girl is accused of murdering an infant baby. Whether she knew if she was pregnant or not, is a question forensic psychologist Lydie embarks on a journey to establish. Stephanie Daley thus brings to the fore pertinent issues in the contemporary world - morality and teenage pregnancy.
The film tells the story of the 16 year old Christian girl, whose blood trail is found by a doctor, out on a school skiing excursion. In the blood, afterbirth is discovered with the discovery of an infant in the nearby toilet later to follow. Signs of possible murder are evident from the gauged mouth of the infant girl. Upon confrontation, Stehanie insists that her child was a still born and further feigns ignorance of having been pregnant. A legal proceeding would later on ensue as she is arrested for murder.
The murky world of teenage pregnancy and infant death ensues from this point as psychologist Lydie Crane comes in to investigate Stephanie independently. Herself pregnant with a son, Lydie is able to break into Stephanie’s world and gains more insights over the infant’s dad and concerning the events surrounding the murder. Having suffered a still birth herself, Lydie breaks through Stephanie as she finally opens up and consents to having murdered her baby with “her mind.”
However, upon further probing, Stephanie consents to having born the baby alive at the toilet during a skiing excursion and wrapped it in toilet paper, leaving it for dead.
Various issues, the major one being morality thus come to the fore from this feature film. The value of an infant, dead or alive, is equally a pertinent issue. Although Stephanie may be regarded as callous and lacking in morals, Lydie’s case is almost identical to hers. Having had a still birth, Lydie, together with her husband burned the remains of their daughter and during an argument from the hospital, she threw the ash outside the car in rage. This action may be regarded lack of respect for the dead, similar to Stephanie’s case.
Stephanie Daley is thus an eye opener and a thought provoking film that raises more moral questions than answers when all is said and done.
