Business Model for Sustainable Housing in Saudi Arabia
Business Model for Sustainable Housing in Saudi Arabia
Housing is a vital component of the built environment since it has a great role as far as the sustainable development of cities is concerned. In Saudi Arabia, the sustainable need for housing together with growing demand for energy are some of the things that will make it possible for the country to suffer in the next generation. Moreover, in the years to come, the energy prices will increase, hence encouraging people to consider sustainable housing because of the benefits attached to it. The sustainable housing will be in a position of solving housing problems in addition to reducing negative effects and this has been possible because of the fact that there is effective use of the energy when the house is being constructed, offering protection to the health of occupants against the housing threat and protecting environment against anything that could pollute it, for instance, greenhouse gas emission and any other kind of environmental degradation, for instance uncontrolled waste management.
Business model
Saudi Arabia has been a victim of the housing crisis, therefore, incorporation of sustainable housing is vital for its citizens. In the Saudi Arabia market, much of the sustainable housing cannot be figured out because is associated with high prices. Because of this, the problem has emerged in the business model. The business model has not been in a position of understanding that the sustainable housing will lead to the preservation of the Saudi Arabia’s resources for the coming generations. Likewise, it can minimize the demands for housing energy demand. This is simply because of the fact that, in the globe, the second largest oil reserves are in the Saudi Arabia and according to Dipaola (2016); it is believed that there are possibilities of these reserves lasting for the next 70 years. Therefore, ensuring that the country becomes independent from oil together with proceeding to the sustainable building that incorporate sustainable development, will be pressing or become immediate.
Aims and objectives
While carrying out this research, the research question that will be discussed throughout the paper is how to develop a business model that would encourage sustainable housing in Saudi Arabia. The business model shall act as a preliminary investigation with respect to sustainable housing development implementation in Saudi Arabia. The model shall identify, as well as prioritise barriers, thereby, proving to be useful when it comes to encouraging and guiding Saudi Arabia’s relevant ministry in charge of sustainability implementation. In the attempt of answering the research question, the paper will aim at reviewing the literate in the sustainable housing as well as finding the best sustainable housing in Saudi Arabia and this may incorporate coming up with sustainable housing stakeholders that include companies that might find it difficult to have viable business concept, which is based on the abstract sustainable strategies that a company can deliver through its operations and structures. The paper also aims at defying the main challenges arising from the sustainable housing with an intention of overcoming it. There is a proposal for a BM concept for this. While doing this, another important thing to do will be reviewing the sustainable housing literature to identify the barriers, and from the best practices that have been written in the literate, it will be possible to understand the meaning of BM in addition to its elements. The researcher will develop a conceptual BM for the sustainable housing and at the same time review it and develop an implementation plan that is necessary for the new BM in the process of overcoming the barriers in SS to improve the sustainable housing delivery in the market, hence making the best use of the BM idea.
