Salman Khan is the founder of the Khan Academy is an organization founded by Salman Khan. The founder of the organization is a scholar in fields such as mathematic, engineering, and computer science. His urge to lecture using to deliver online lectures started while he was teaching his cousin through yahoo. The inspiration of popularizing his method of teaching accelerated when his other family members and some of his friends sought his help using the same method. The friends and relatives delivered testimonials from the students as they used Khan’s materials from YouTube resulted to Khan quitting his job as an analyst in the hedge fund. Khan then decided to concentrate on the YouTube tutorials, which he released later under a moniker Khan academy.
The urge to provide the tutorials to the students and other people doing their research saw the foundation of the non-profit oriented organization. Khan’s project receives donations as the source of running funds. The organization also receives a significant backing from the chairperson of Microsoft Bill Gates, the google association, the Leman a Brazil-based foundation, and Ann Doerr. Khan Academy uses YouTube videos as a teaching tool. Since its foundation and appearance in the web, Khan Academy has provided about three hundred and sixty-five million videos users. The Academy has also solved more than 1.8 billion mathematical problems. The website hosted by Khan Academy provide to teachers and students in grade K-12 with free videos as instructional guidelines. The content of the library, which is interactive, provides the users with sets of practice problem. In addition, it provides with the reports on the progress of the teachers and students, and mechanics of game meant to encourage and motivate the engagement of the student.
Initially, the Academy focused on assisting the individual users on how to learn on themselves away from their institutions. The Academy is currently working in partnership with schools in an attempt to transform and explore the mode of organizing, delivering, and experiencing instructions. Many teachers across the world have access to the online learning resources. The presence of an ever-growing list of choices the educators require more information of higher quality on the product’s working in different styles by different students. In addition, people require the reasons on the effective usage of the product in school.
The Academy effectively employs the use of the Technology –based Training in its service delivery. The notion that the method has a higher rate of retention than the use of books promotes its application. The educators also argue and agree that the absence of student interaction with the trainer is a leading factor contributing to the failure of the previous method of standard classroom and textbook-oriented learning. Technology Based Training captures the attention of the students keeping a high level of interaction. The courses offered aims at gaining and maintaining the interest through an extensive use of graphics and animation in illustrating and explaining the concepts.
Studies show that the online trainings are less intimidating than those led by instructors are. The students who take the online courses enjoy the risk-free environment, as they do not expose the mistakes done by the student while trying new things. The advantage is valuable when a student is trying to learn basic soft skills such as leadership and decision-making. The student goes back to the online course in case of a failure. As such, this method eliminates the cases of embarrassment when a student fails in front of a group.
The content of the learning materials in the technology-based training are usually up to date. Therefore, the method has the capability of keeping the pace of the fast changing as the maintaining team refreshes the content with the dynamic of changes, unlike books. The cost of Technology-based Technology is almost ninety percent less expensive as compared to the training led by an instructor.
However, the technology-based education gives less interpersonal interaction between the student and the trainer. The learners that require motivation do not get a chance to meet their trainers and falls behind while using eLearning. The method does not gives any set times for the interaction and the motivations. The only available time is set for the learning. The learning approach provided by the technology-based training is not appealing to the styles enjoyed by most of the learners. Most of the learners prefer images while others prefer just reading words and maybe few may prefer talks as form of learning. Some of the problems may require a face-to-face analysis. Otherwise, the wed based learning leaves some questions isolated. The method does not promise the problem analysis as it leaves many questions unattended. The method also faces technological issues as it relies on the availability of computers. Another eLearning requires special devices and software programs. The internet connection also develops the technology issues. Therefore, the method is limited to the places with poor internet connection. The method is only applicable to the people with competence in computer. The incompetent learners prefer physical courses.
The Khan Academy has embraced full application of the technology-based training. Despite the drawbacks available, it is evident that in the modern society. The technology has influenced provision of knowledge required for the daily running of the societies. The use of eLearning provides the resources required for researchers that necessitate the acquiring of the knowledge.
