Offender’s Problem
In the recent years, Ted Nugent has, publicly, admitted that he is a pedophile. A pedophile is an individual who has sexual attractions to children at the age of 10-12 years. According to American Psychiatric Association, pedophile is usually a mental disorder. Pedophiles have a problem of being sexually attracted and engaging in sexual affairs with children. Ted Nugent, according to a public interview, admitted that he was a pedophile. The mental disorder cannot be predicted or noticed among individuals because one cannot understand other’s feelings. At the age of 28, Ted Nugent had an affair with a twelve year old girl where she had oral sex with Ted. There have been myriad cases where Nugent has committed various crimes against young children.
There have been many views regarding his trial and accomplishment of justice for molested young girls. This was after he, publicly, declared himself a pedophile. According to an interview on his situation, Ted Nugent’s daughters admitted that he had sexual affairs with younger girls. Ted Nugent is said to have fathered children out of wedlock while having five women. His mental disorder has been mentioned worse behavior among medical practitioners since it cannot be, easily, identified. Ted Nugent has held several talks and interviews where he has confirmed that he is a serial pedophile. He has been attributed with murder of various underage girls. The public has responded negatively regarding his behavior in the society. Some individuals suggest that the offender should be put in a lifetime period or executed for the murder of innocent young girls. Ted Nugent was arrested and put on twenty-four charges of crimes and child molestation (Wettstein, 1998).
Diagnosis
The pedophile mental disorder has not been exhibited in many individuals as the disorder is not easily noticeable among people. Medical practitioners postulate that pedophile study includes the analysis of individual feelings in order to diagnose people. Study of pedophile can only be carried out on individuals who have broken the law in order to determine their fate in the court of law. According to Mayo Clinic research studies, most of the sexually abused children cases involve pedophile. It also postulates that around 1 percent of males could be a pedophile.
The use of DSM-IV could be of great assistance in determining whether a person is a pedophile or not. Diagnostic and Manual of Mental Disorders IV Codes are used in determining various symptoms of certain mental disorders and facilitate differentiation from other mental disorders. The codes used in the system are designed in a way that they coincide with the International Classification of Diseases Codes. There are various mental disorders experienced by children during their childhood. For instance, children may have disorders related to mild mental retardation, moderate mental retardation, mental retardation, and severe mental retardation. The use of DSM-IV Codes can be of great importance to medical health care doctors and practitioners in determining the emergence and the occurrence of pedophile mental disorder. The aforementioned codes, usually, have distinctions. It is, therefore, recommended that users of codes use some references in getting diagnostic codes (Wettstein, 1998).
Treatment Intervention
According to various research studies, pedophiles can be subjected to a cognitive-behavioral therapy. This has been the most preferred way of handling pedophiles across the world. Cognitive-behavioral therapies include some practices such as assertiveness, change of behavioral skills training, empathy, and social strategies. The aforementioned practices are aimed at improving the condition and pedophiles environment. Over the past years, pedophiles have been viewed to have characteristics that are violence, and arrogance. Treatment of pedophiles usually begins with how other individuals perceive patients. It is important for people to understand and acknowledge that pedophiles in their treatment process in order to, successfully, accomplish objectives (Gabbard, 2005).
According to research studies, treatment of pedophiles among prison inmates has proved effective. Sexual offenders suffering from pedophiles can acquire therapy sessions to improve their situation. Some studies were conducted among inmates in various incarceration centers in order to determine the efficiency of therapy on pedophiles. A 40 percent of the inmates showed a positive improvement in the reduction of recidivism. According to data chosen from inmates included all the criminal counts carried out by the offender (Socarides & Loeb, 2003).
Legal Intervention
There are various legal intervention mechanisms that can be put into place in order minimize the issue of pedophiles among individuals. The public has greatly condemned such behavior in the society associating it with bad traits. The judicial systems can employ various measures in ensuring that pedophiles activities and actions are restricted in order to control infliction of harm to underage children. According to research studies, court of law has different stands concerning how pedophiles should be treated after being found guilty. In most cases, the punishment is always harsh and severe in order to eliminate such practices. Some offenders have been found guilty of various charges of murder and molestation of underage children. As a result, they have been arrested and imprisoned for a considerable jail term (Serran, 2006).
Charges against molestation of children amount to a big felony that leads to incarceration. Sexual offenders have been punished by the law through implementing laws that protect gender sexual rights. Victims can be charged not guilty by a court as a result of mental disorder. A court of law can order further investigation on the culprit in order to determine his or sanity. Individuals are expected to be tried and imprisoned depending on the court rulings if found sane. If the offender is found insane, on the other hand, the court rulings can provide a program to allow treatment and care of such victims of pedophile. It is, therefore, important for a court to provide a fair ruling according to judicial rules and federal laws. The federal government should put into place in order to prevent its widespread. Through government intervention, cases of pedophile can significantly be reduced (Wettstein, 1998).
Summary
This topic emphasizes on various measures and strategies undertaken by medical practitioners and doctors in solving issues related to pedophile. Application of government regulations and laws in mitigating pedophile disorder is of crucial importance. Pedophile individuals form a small proportion of the whole world. As a result, it is difficult to recognize them under emotional and feelings of the sexual offenders. Sexual offenders should also be subjected to the same rule of law if they are found to be sane. Sexual offenders found insane, suffering from pedophile, should be offered therapy in order to improve their condition.
