Policy statement
The training policy for Essilor encompasses the growth of individual employees and the development of the company. The company has committed to enhancing the growth of the employees through training opportunities which aim at realizing the ultimate growth of the company. Investing in the development of employees is one of the ways of increasing productivity in the workplace. In this regard, the company aims to improve the skills of its employees through a fundamental policy statement. The policy seeks to ‘optimize the match between the individual needs of employees with the objectives and needs of the group’ (Essilor 1).
Nature of new policy
The new policy seeks to facilitate on the job training of employees by adopting digital and online learning. This method is a way of embracing the current wave of technological development that is sweeping across local and global businesses. In this era of technology, businesses that embrace technology are more efficient and productive. Training by use of online and digital learning involves increasing the skills and improving the performance of the individual (Essilor 1). Such training involves incorporation of diverse aspects of the business and utilizing the online media to access the diversity of literature that can help improve performance in the workplace. The second step in accessing online learning is to encourage the mobility of employees. Online and digital learning enable the employees of the group to expect a change in the manner in which things are done. On the job training through the application of digital learning allows employees to connect ideas learnt and relate it to the practical aspects of their work. Accessing technology online requires that employees have requisite skills needed to explore the online knowledge base. These skills involve simple computer application skills. These skills can be offered to the employees while at work or be made compulsory to employees that seek to join this group in the course of their careers.
The need for change of policy
The current policy should be changed because there is need to embrace technology to enhance worker efficiency and productivity. Essilor has had a long history of innovation. Innovation cannot exist in the absence of technology. The group has invested so much money in research and development to ensure that it constantly embraces productivity. Innovation describes various aspects of the business which include products, services and the processes involved in marketing. In this regard, the new policy that focuses on embracing digital learning to engage employees in training could not have come at the right time.
Another reason that support the need to change the policy originates form the group’s values. Essilor cherishes the diversity of cultures and profiles (Essilor 1). Employees of this organization should be people who exhibit cultural competence when dealing with all aspects of the business. Cultural competence enhances effective relations among employees and creates a sense of belonging for all. Digital learning fosters this culture because many employees are able to read and access materials that can support and enhance their multicultural effectiveness. Digital learning has a wide resource base that increases the knowledge of the employees about issues that affect them in the workplace. There is a need to enhance long-term skills through the utilization of new technologies. This can be achieved by attracting and retaining talents within an organizational setting. Digital learning helps in improving the talents of employees who will subsequently provide fulfilment in the job and create leaders in their areas of expertise.
