PHISHING SCAM
Phishing is an e-mail fraud method in which the perpetrator sends out a legitimate looking e-mail using a trustworthy entity. This is in an attempt to gather personal information like passwords and financial information like credit card details from recipients.
A mock phishing method might be to use a company that is known and used frequently is where the vital information is sent as an e-mail to a known and targeted person, containing the URL link related to a famous company. One might create a false webpage related to a known company. They might even give the name of one of the administrators known by users to lure the person to the fraudulent website in order to get the targeted information. Some details that could be asked would be the name of the company the person works, his/ her email address and password. The person involved might be having the most critical information in the email thus the host can access and be able to gather the targeted information.
There are certain instances whereby on logging into one’s Facebook account, an advert from a renown company promising to enable one earn a lot of money online as a form of online working would be displayed. Here, the website leads one to various steps and pages. One will go on, and they lure one to giving the credit card number, enter the password and some personal details in order to subscribe. The terms and conditions are explained and even some examples of people who have benefited from this online working. The URL was remarkably accurate and the contents quite convincing. It is always said that when the deal is too deferential, think twice.
This seemed suspicious when multiple links were sent all asking for almost the same information but more detailed and from different perspectives. I realized I was almost being scammed. The capacity of this to confuse victims is quite high.
