Within many organizations in America today, the wage and hour law for many employees is a source of infringement to the personal liberty of a selected group of employees. Many organizations have a policy to have a code of time for work from Monday to Friday with a level of overtime for many people. Often, the overtime is voluntary and depends on the willing ability of the employee. According to Hughes, democracy is an element of the majority and secludes the minority groups at every moment (Rights Online). In the case of this policy, the Monday to Friday rule infringes on the personal liberty to practice religion. While many people have religious activities during the weekend, a certain selected minority have their religious services during the week. An example is the Muslim society, which has their religious practices during the Friday afternoon. Certain organizations are rigid on this provision and the Muslim society cannot have a way of worship at this time. This infringes on their personal liberty.
The Monday to Friday hour rule without a consideration for employees is a great benefit to the organization that gets a long time having workers at work. In this manner, they have an increased productivity. The Muslims are not the only group that has their fellowship during the week; many other employees decide to forego their religious activities due to the rigidity of their work premises. The federal government has little to do in this regard because America claims to be democratic. Ideally, little can be done, as the American citizens have to strike an income for their life. They are therefore faced with no other viable option for the work but these organizations.
