In this assignment, I am going to write a book review of the four disciplines of execution. It is significant to note that the staffs play an important role for the existence of a successful company, hence the necessity of improving the staffs performance. Though the application of the four disciplines of execution, it help in keeping the staffs, team members, on their toes, so as to achieve the company’s objectives.
Discipline 1: focus on the wildly imperative goals
It is a fact that a company will have many significant goals to achieve, but this discipline help the company in identifying the most wildly imperative goals- could be one or two vital goals. After, successfully, identifying the wildly important goal, it should be stated as from A to Z. It helps in making it clear to the team members on where the company is aiming at- for success. By doing this, identifying your widely important goal goals, it becomes crucial to unite all the team members on a common reason as well as making it clear to them on where the company is headed to-accomplishing those important goals (Benschnell, 2013).
Discipline 2: Act on the lead measures
After, productively, implementing the first discipline, it creates a good opening to move toward the second discipline. In this discipline, the team members brainstorm creative ideas on how to achieve the wildly important goals. Lead measure is said to be both manipulative and predictive, whereby, it predicts the result of the insulate measure, and it can be directly influenced by the team. It is, therefore, the obligation of the team to recognize the most important actions that will drive those lead measures, hence enabling a situation, whereby, they quickly adapt, while remaining focused on the wildly important goals. This makes the team members to feel both recognized and as part of the company, thereby, boosting their productivity when it comes to carrying out their roles (McChesney, 2013).
Discipline 3: keep a compelling scoreboard
It is important to notify the team on the progress of the company at all times, so as to know whether they are winning or trailing. If both the lead and insulate measures are not captured on a chart scoreboard and modernized frequently, it creates a setting, whereby, the wildly important goals can be elapsed or end up receiving less weight- the company end up reallocating its goals to other tasks that require to be completed. It is, therefore, important to have a scoreboard so as to keep all the team members on the same page, hence reduces the chances of losing the company’s focal point. Through a literature review, it is recommended that an effective scoreboard should be straightforward, uncomplicated to see for the entire team, demonstrates lead and insulate measures, and uncomplicated to understand at a glimpse. A complicated scoreboard creates a high probability of losing some of the team members, since it is not easier to comprehend. The team members are, more, likely to come up with varying understanding (Benschnell, 2013).
Discipline 4: Create a cadence of accountability
Under this discipline, a persistent series of accounting for precedent performance and preparation to budge the score ahead is created. It is important to note that completion happens in this discipline. It brings both the disciplines and the team members together, so as to achieve the wildly important goal (McChesney, 2013). After the company has achieved its widely important goals, new goals are set and the same process is applied- the 4 Disciplines of Execution.
