The ball passes quickly from my classmate and I feel the ball in my hands. I run, the level of adrenalin is overwhelming me, I feel myself so powerful at this moment. If there is a chance we win today – it is my 3 point ball that will make it happen. Will I be able to make it? I thought I could, but I have never thought about letting the whole team down in a first place. That is right, because I have never thought about the team, but myself: an arrogant, self-confident and reckless. After the noise in my ears has stopped and everything stopped being blurry in front of my eyes, I realized that today my failure has become the failure of the whole team, even though it was not intended. Now I recall my feelings of that day and a promise I made myself since then – I will never repeat such a selfish move. It is not about me anymore, it’s the team that matters.
It was an important basketball match and I was sure that I was in a perfect shape. The game started dynamically, but I was feeling that something was lacking here. The drive, the passion were about to bring us to the winning score and I felt that I was the one who could do that. After that pass was given to me, I nearly have forgotten about everything. Finally, I felt myself back in the reality once again when the ball did not make it to the basket. I could not believe how self-confident I was that it almost blinded me – I could have passed the ball to my classmate that was so near! After the game a was furious with myself, however, all my teammates were cheering me up and no one even thought to blame me for our defeat.
That day I have learned one of the most powerful life lessons, as I have been taught how harmful it can be to place your interests before the others. I am still working to improve myself, but whenever a situation like this happens – I now think twice.
