The research project aims at describing in details how the social media has changed. The research projects also discuss what has triggered the changes that the social media platform has gone through. The paper will focus on Facebook, and it will also discuss how the format, audience, and purpose of the social media platform has changed, since when it was created until now.
Facebook was launched in 2004 by Mark. His main idea was to create a social networking site that would help the students in the school connect and share ideas. However, one year after the social network was produced, it expanded quickly, where it included other students from other universities. Facebook later expanded to all universities and colleges in America. It later became available to students who had 18 years of age and over.
We chose Facebook as our point of research because it has become the most popular social media network. The main reason we decided to search the genre is because Facebook is a pioneer social media enterprise, which have Revolutionized the social network genre. This has been done by shifting the simple act of social connecting and interacting with friends and families to a booming business. Facebook has been used to promote businesses, where it is also used to advertise the products.
In this project, we will focus on finding the evolution of Facebook. This will involve discussing how the social media platform features have changed over time. For example, we shall discuss how the styles, layout, profile, news feed and home pages have changed over the course of time. We shall also discuss how the Facebook audience has changed and how the purpose of the profile has changed over time. In recent periods, Facebook’s audience has changed, with the older people joining other social media platforms such as Twitter and Linkedin. However, on the other hand, the young generation is using Facebook since it is the easiest social media platform to use. The purpose of Facebook has changed over time. Facebook was intended for keeping close tabs on the social life of close friends and families. However, this has changed as people are using the platform for business purposes.
The research project will be carried out by using peer-reviewed articles, where we will gather information about the changes that has taken place in the audience and purpose throughout the year. The peer reviewed articles will also help in investigating the reasons that have triggered the changes. In this research project, we have also planned on using different Facebook profiles as samples from different periods, which will be used to compare changes in the structure and format of the different profiles that have been available for the Facebook users throughout the years.
In doing this project, we decided to share the tasks. I tackled the audience changes that have taken place on the platform.Ruthi tackled the context changes that have taken place on the social platform while Elisa did how the purpose of the platform has changed over time. In our group, we have used different virtual methods to communicate. For instance, we have used email and google documents to share ideas. We also discuss the topic in class, while at other times we meet outside the library. At other times, we also share journals, books and articles, mostly the peer-reviewed books or journals. We have also shared ideas using Facebook, where we have created a group conversation. We also tag each other in pictures and Facebook updates that were done a couple of years back.
In doing this research, I used peer-reviewed articles to gather information about how the purpose of the social media platform has changed, and what has triggered these changes.I found that Facebook was first designed for communication among students, where it was later opened for everybody else. The most significant findings in my research are the Egypt revolution and communal violence in Burma.
