What are some ways the Christian gospel is perceived in our culture?
Different people perceive the gospel in different ways. Some of them think that it is just the book, the main idea of which is to tell us to do the good works and to live the life, which is suitable for us (The Gospel Message, n.d.). Others feel that gospel is something mystical and complicated and the true meaning of its lines could be revealed only to impeccable and ideal human beings. Finally there are those, who understand that the gospel is a little “how to” on the way to heaven and the idea of it is to show us that the truly way to the eternal life lies through repentance.
What are some specific moral reasons people may reject the Christian gospel?
The moral reasons can be noticed in the following questions: “Why the desperate sinner who repents in the very last minute of his life is better than a good and decent person, who has made only one sin at the end of the life?” or “where is moral, why do sinners are not punished immediately for what they have done?”
What are some specific emotional reasons people may reject the Christian gospel?
The emotional reason why gospel is rejected is that most of people cannot understand the God’s unconditional love towards everyone. They hate to have trials, problems of just being “not rich enough”. That is why they are in some way angry at God, because He doesn’t give them what they want or even vice versa - sends troubles.
What are some specific intellectual reasons people may reject the Christian gospel?Unfortunately for many people the Christian gospel is just a collection of fairy-tales and faith for them is a blind leap. They are pretty sure that Bible serves only for weak and uneducated people, who simply need to have something to believe in. The counter argument for this is the following: “if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you” (Matthew 17:20).
What can Christians do to address these objections and better communicate the Christian gospel?
First of all Christians need to pray for people who because of lack of knowledge or courage reject gospel. Second of all Christians should never judge others, trying to treat everyone, regardless the religion background, with a patience and devotion. Third of all Christians should show the example of good, humble and honest people. As for me, showing the example to others is the most efficient way.
