The Lincoln Airport (LNK), formerly known as Lincoln Municipal Airport is a public airport that also serves military purposes. The LNK is the second largest airport in Nebraska, and it is located about five miles northwest of Lincoln, the capital in Lancaster County, Nebraska. The LNK has a distinctive uniqueness from the other airports mainly because it is a joint use airport. A joint use airport conventionally means that, the airport serves both military, and public service purposes. The airport has complex military installations which enhance military related operations, and they coexist with the commercial airport operations. This is done mainly to economize on resources, and maximize on the airports output. The airports 12,901 foot primary runway was initially set aside as an emergency landing for space shuttle but was rarely used. The Lincoln Airports’ main use is commercial aircraft operations besides military maneuvers. Enplanements: 2016 was the third consecutive year of increase in enplanements at the Lincoln airport. Last year recorded about 326,613 which is about 13% increase from the previous year. This owes to a number of airlines that have established the operations bases at the airport.
Operations: LNK facilitated 54, 723 operations, which comprised of 32,287 general purpose aviation,9,851 military aviation, 7,114 local airline aviation, and 5,472 transient general and air taxi aviation operations .
Based aircraft: The number of aircrafts based on this airport has recently risen from 72 to 199 aircrafts. This can be broken down to 50 multi-engine planes, 105 single engine planes, 23 military purpose aircrafts, and 14 jets.Besides these there are 5 emergency and special purpose helicopters that operate from the airport (Arinav, 2016).
Airlines: Endeavor air operating regional jets flights from the airport to Minneapolis and St. Paul on behalf of Delta air lines. Express jet has its operations in the airport too, operating jet flights to Chicago and Denver on behalf of united airlines (Arinav, 2016). Express jet also operates regional jet flights to Atlanta, operating as Delta connections, on behalf of Delta Airlines. SkyWest airlines, which operates Canada air CRJ-200 regional jet flights, is the last airline company in operation at LNK
Fuel usage: In the November report of the Lincoln Airport board minutes, the 2016 year totals of fuel flowage amounted to 274,786.00 gallons of Jet A and 220 LL fuel delivered by fixed base operators concenssionaries..
Concessions: The Lincoln Airport hosts a number of locally established restaurants including Air Host Restaurant, and lounge and Luckie’s Lounge and Restaurant. These two offers their customers a variety of fast foods, and serve assorted drinks as well. Drinks served at these restaurants include a variety of cocktails, soft drinks, and beer. The research detailed out that Air Host Restaurant and lounge will be the key target to providing food, and beverage service at the consolidated Lincoln Airport.
Amenities; some of the common amenities provided at the Lincoln Airport include a variety of transportation means which comprise of crew car, shuttle, and on-site car rentals. Besides transport, the airport offers free wireless internet access (Wi-Fi) to its customers throughout the premise. Lastly the airport offers ‘Pet animal relief area’ services. These services include provision of a designated area, where pet animals are released out of their cages to stretch, and relieve themselves before changing flights to their respective destinations.
