Technological advancements have been a major reason contributing towards the rise in globalization. Technology has eased the methods of communicating internationally. Now people can be connected via the internet to anywhere in the world at no cost at all (Businessweek, 2003). Globalization and technology even ensure commonality amongst regions. Similar tastes in fashion, music, food have helped integrate the world into a single unit. People may travel anywhere in the world for the first time and still may not be complete strangers. People can virtually visit any place they desire over the internet.
Where globalization has its benefits it even has its drawbacks. There is information overload. National news that harms the image of a country in the international arena is circulated in various parts of the world. Therefore, globalization exposes us to information that may not always be useful to us. Globalization and technology has brought about uncertainty. People can never be sure because everything around then is constantly changing.
The future of the professions in the IT world seems to be very prosperous if these growing trends continue. There is a need for software developers and creative developers in leading IT firms. Along with this, new IT businesses are starting up that would create job opportunities for people studying computer technology and software development today. These jobs are highly paid because the work requirement does not allow everyone to be able to perform these jobs. It is the highly trained and talented individuals who are able to secure jobs in these positions, and would continue to do so in the future.
In order to stay competitive, companies, individuals, and society as a whole needs to recognize their core competencies. If we are able to identify what we are best at then we may have a competitive edge over the global markets (McCormick). Staying up-to-date with trends in the market, regardless of the profession, it is extremely important. This allows us to be in touch with what people expect and what needs to be done to satisfy consumer demands. Along with this, a nation needs to adjust itself to the external environment and be receptive to changes. If people are willing to learn then they will definitely benefit from globalization and it would reduce their chances to become a stagnant nation.
Education helps in teaching the required skills to the new generation. These are people who would be part of the workforce in the future. Therefore, it is essential for education to be updated according to prevailing market trends. Universities and colleges are indulged in providing experiential learning that trains students during their education, and adds to their competitive advantage. Focusing students towards careers that are growing would be a wise choice made by institutions.
