Edification is the overall enhancement or enlightenment, especially on matters that involve the uplifting of an individual’s spirituality or morality. Religion plays a significant role in edification. That is, spiritually exalting and uplifting women in the society. Feminine edification is the uplifting of the feminine form both morally and spiritually. In doing so, women attain an elevated status in the society. This has a great significance on society today. Association with feminine edification makes women feel worthy and valuable in the society. They stop directing all attention solely to beauty but also try to attainment of a good character. They become modest and attain a beautiful attitude. This also has an effect on men and the society. Women are no longer portrayed as just sexual objects. The society recognizes their significance and views them as respectable members of the community. Edification of all women through education is no longer a luxury but a requirement in the modern society. Edification of women through education also needs to focus on sexual related issues. In recent times, it has become vivid that women who are not well educated and enlightened on sexual matters may fall prey to related vices. Women who have little or no knowledge of sexual issues and the outside world cannot properly comprehend the mechanism of the outside world.
Patriarchy and misogyny are two components that have plagued all societies of the world at one time or another. Some societies have succeeded in eradicating these vices, while others are still shackled by them. Most of the societies especially in the countries that are not well developed show vices that are best associated with a ‘man’s world’, where families, businesses and all the key activities are managed by men, where men make more money than women. Additionally, sons are favored over daughters and men have extra options than women in all walks of life. This manifests itself either socially or professionally. It appears as the reflective nature of males to control others people especially women through the rule of domination and power.
Means of Femininity Edification
The topic of Femininity Edification has seen serious movement in past few years, some of which were not anticipated by feminist movement. Some nations grant women with reservation in Job sector and have provisions for them to join political parties and programs. But, even these acknowledgements and recognitions, many countries are still unwilling to give women roles with decision making powers. In western countries, women have great track record in careers but leading corporations rarely have a female head. This is an indirect exposition of modern civilizations and its nature. Workplace harassment is another issue on prowl in the discussion of women upliftment in society.
Ares which can be exploited for women upliftment are:
Femininity and Education
In political and sociological debates education is one of the most discussed topics. Most educational institutions have crucial role in reduction of gender inequalities. Research has displayed transformation of education system from selective to comprehensive in United Kingdom is having positive impact in reduction of gender inequalities and women upliftment. With education women can be taught to bridge the gap between them and opposite sex. In many schools and campuses over the world, upliftment of women has garnered greater amount of attention in comparison to past. Engraving the elevated role of women through education system can help pass the message of equality from current generations to the future.
Femininity and Sex Education
Women who have little or no knowledge of sexual issues and the outside world cannot properly comprehend the mechanism of the outside world. It is indispensable that women be enlightened on such matters so that they can in turn model a society to be sexually responsible (Bailey 34). Lack of such information also makes them unable to train, monitor and bring up their families accordingly. Generally the responsibility for intellectual growth should lie with the mother. Counselors also come in handy to rectify the situation of sexual unawareness. Despite counselors being there to offer assistance, the initial effort to extend this kind of enlightenment should be done by the parents –especially the mother who has also been enlightened. It is clear that there are more benefits to the girls in her upbringing if the mother is properly and adequately educated. The carryover effect serves to assert that edification of all women through education is no longer a luxury but a requirement in the modern society
Femininity and Media
Soap operas are quite popular means for femininity edification or women upliftment. The disruptions showcased in most of these operas or soaps are directly targeted on women. Cases of Extra-marital relations and family issues and how women play a crucial role in solving them and helping their families overcome them, enables women to get more power over men. The disruptions of soaps are cases with which women identify themselves and this is what makes more attracted to them. Women can be fascinated by the control shown in these soaps as these soaps display the control elements which women crave for in real life. Media can be a great way to showcase the real position of women in this world and many soaps these days are based on a powerful female character.
Femininity and Information Technology
Information technology is used to facilitation of enhanced opportunities for business with greater capability levels which can help in reducing the issue of gender inequalities. Information technology and communication can help majorly in upliftment of women as they can use these resources and build a better world for them, a world where they are independent of any limitations imposed on them by society.
Femininity and Employment and Income
Employment and Income opportunities serve as a crucial means for Femininity Edification. Any mother who receives income and economic independence is capable of passing these benefits to their family and their children. This economic independence plugs to further awareness for better opportunities and interests which can be exploited to further economic gains. With better awareness and interests, women increase their efforts for maintenance of economic and personal health which increases the spending and generating bigger buying power in the hands of women. In past few years, women’s role in society has been overseen to a greater extent. Nowadays, women are seen as important cogs at workplaces which were not the scenario a few years earlier. They needed to be mothers who took care of their children at home and take care of home chores such as cleaning and cooking. Role of women has changed over years with the options of education and employment giving them a voice for their cause.
Societies that have shattered these chains of femininity-related ignorance and are emancipated from these stereotypical approaches have achieved so through educating the people and raising awareness in all levels of management of the society (Johnson 56). Educating the female members of the society is of paramount importance. Girls learn to practice and develop their mental ability at a very early age through several types of education. The course of education for girls does not begin when she attends school – it is only the formal education of girls that begins there, but the initial and informal education is taught in the lap of the child’s mother. Consequently, it is very essential that a woman needs to be educated so as to raise her children intelligently. This creates a society that is strong in character, spirit and morals.
At present, women have carved a bigger and more important role in society than what they were limited to in past. Many women have held strikes and marches for changing the traditional stereotype of their role in society. Women have been proving overtime that they are equal to men and thus they should also have equal rights as men do. Role of Women in education system has increased overtime and now we can see a generation where women have majority over men in terms of educators. Even in corporate world, women are working toe-toe with men and aspiring to be future leaders.
