Symposium Proposal on African architecture and urbanism
Many areas in Africa would be suitable for setting up a symposium on African architecture and urbanism. This can only be set in a neighborhood with rich history, and a lot of facts regarding the development of architecture are urbanization growth especially from the colonial time. An example of a neighborhood with sufficient information about architecture and urbanism is the Tuareg community. There have been radical changes in the notions of the Tuareg territory and many contemporary issues relating to the Tuareg people.
Many reasons would make me select this area. The first reason is that this neighborhood has rich history concerning the architecture in the manner which they used to build the houses and facilities in past and the gradual change in its development and urbanization. The other reason is that the region is accessible, and the region is stable hence many people can visit the site. There are different themes for consideration which would be present in this symposium. First, the theme of political instability and how it affected the development of architecture and urbanism. The other theme is the modernization of the architecture of the community. There are many possible participants in the symposium including the history, architecture researchers and people who are interested in the art of the African communities.
There is a lot of information that participants can learn from the symposium including the architectural development of African communities, and the organization of these communities in the past. The selected area would disclose a lot of information related to the current debates in many aspects. The neighborhood has grouped itself into groups which form the urban centers, and the mode of architecture is modern. These themes will be significant to the participants.
