Management
As compared to the CEO’s of the 20th century, the CEO’s today are facing more risks associated with their businesses due to the level of competition and the competitiveness in the market. In the 20th century, the CEO was the individual who has the solution for all the aspects of the business on the basis of the knowledge and the experience. However, today the CEO’s of the companies are equipped with the huge number of ideas to resolve the problems faced by the business. Today, the businesses are exposed to the different risks such as recession, inflation rates, security problems and most importantly the convergence of the accounting, ethical and other business laws of the different countries. Therefore, the CEO’s today must be well aware of the accounting and business laws and must be flexible to adapt any new changes in the business regulations. Therefore, the main difference of the CEO’s of past and present is that today, CEO’s are focusing on the overseas markets and expose to the financial and non-financial risks at a greater level. Their analytical approach has changed now because of the non-financial factors such as the reputation of the business. (Daniel, 2013)
In case of the women CEO’s, there is a typical and traditional thinking of the experts that the company’s CEO must be a man. However, on the basis of current trend, the number of CEO’s who are female is increasing. The main reason of the lower number of female CEO’s is that there is a glass wall in between the woman and the CEO position of the company. The employees and other management don’t accept the woman as their boss in most of the cases. Similarly, it is very difficult for the women to stay at the top position of the company because of lack of support from other staff members. However, the number of CEO’s in the list of companies by Fortune 500 is increasing on a yearly basis which shows that the women are as good as the male CEO’s. (Kim, 2014)
