The aggressive behaviors are the hostile actions that are carried out, and they end up violating the rights of other people . This analysis will handle some of the aggressive behaviors that have been displayed in the two Drama/Comedy categories of television programs which are ‘The Office’ and ‘Friends’. The Office is an office drama featuring the regional manager of the branch called Michael Scott heading the office with over ten employees. The boss in this case has shown several acts of aggressiveness such as the case when he displays relational aggression by abusing one of his employees called Toby who heads the human resource department. He abuses Toby on the fact that he stands on his way of making people in the office have fun; and this is a form of aggressive behavior since Toby stands for practices in the office that are in line with the rights of the employees. The other act of aggression is displayed by the boss towards the office receptionist called Pamela when he accuses her of having slept with a number of guys in the office; a form of aggressive behavior that shows how women are treated in the office. The behavior however goes unpunished since they are committed by the boss himself.
The other television program is the sitcom called ‘Friends’ which has several acts of aggression being displayed on several occasions. Joey who is one of the acts displays a form of aggression towards Janice who is a woman that his friend Chandler is dating. He tells off Janice and insists that he does not value her nor need to be her friend. He goes as far as talking Chandler out of the relationship as a way of having her out of their lives. This is a form of relational aggression because Joey displays open hostility towards Janice without caring on whether he hurts her feelings. The behavior almost causes the two friends who live together to disagree, and even though the aggression is not punished, Janice takes a step in trying to take away the hostility between them by taking Joey out and trying to share light moments together as a way of having them understand each other and in turn get along since they would be hanging out with each other in the future longer period of time.
The relational aggression has been displayed in both television programs because it involves the form of hostility which damages the relationships of other people . This has been shown by Joey who tries to break up his friend’s relationship to Janice, a fact that has also been highlighted with Michael Scott showing hostility towards Toby. The office is seen to be the most violent program of the two because it contains many occasions where the boss continuously violates the rights of the employees by intruding on their private lives and at times threatening them from losing their jobs. The aggression displayed in both cases are however not punishable; a factor that indicates the higher level to which aggressive behavior is displayed in the society. The aggressive behaviors are however not supported by everybody in the program since majority of them highly oppose the aggressive ideas displayed in the program. These programs are therefore meant to entertain the audience, but the main lessons can be attained by the audience taking the lessons and learning to treat people in a friendly manner. The amount of aggressive shows on TV can be reduced by having the TV management restricting any form of aggressive content from airing on their channel as this will not reach the audience. The producers of the TV content should also be sensitive enough so as not to produce the content with aggressive nature for Television.
