Impetus for Change
Impetus for Change
In any organization, there is always room for improvement and change at regular intervals. Department of Juvenile Justice makes sure that the youth is controlled and supervised in communities through supervision, counseling, and various other services. The paper highlights the type of change in an organization’s structure needed to bring improvement in the services provided and how the change is communicated to see the practical result. Successful change requires proper guidance and leadership abilities. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the type of change brought in Department of Juvenile Justice to meet the requirements. Also, it reflects on the leadership and motivational skills adapted by the organization to implement change.
A leader in the rehabilitation facility was required that motivates staff to become leaders of detained youth and spreads more positivity to minimize the activities committed by juveniles.
Analysis
Types of change management that the organization can consider are developmental, transitional, and transformational. In developmental change, an organization goes through changes that involve improvement in current business procedures. In transitional change, an organization completely changes business procedures to bring an improvement at the operational level. In transformational change, an organization completely reshapes its business strategy to sustain competition. All such changes are implemented through the proper guidance of a leader. A leader with effective leadership and communication skills can play an essential role in bringing change to any organization. The management at Department of Juvenile Justice, after identification of loophole, applied the developmental change .
Developmental Change
An organization can experience a radical change if proper guidance is directed. Department of Juvenile Justice needed a developmental change, which was possible through a proper channel of communication and leadership qualities of the person implementing change in the organization. The rehabilitation facility needs to have more trained staff that will cater the needs of residents. A leader, who has the knowledge of implementing change, will be able to bring change. Change is a not one-way process, and the involvement of a leader and employees is equally important. The leader, who will motivate the staff to be more active, is crucial to the entire change process. A professional, who possesses leadership qualities, can communicate to the staff and guide them to achieve the expected outcomes of change .
Another important aspect of the change process in any organization is that it cannot be forced rather it is implemented based on mutual understanding. Department of Juvenile Justice underwent developmental changes, and the staff was trained to adapt to new processes and technology. The following figure indicates the change process followed by the organization.
Figure 1: Change Process
Change process communicated by leaders
Leaders communicated the change procedure by inducting three phases such as preparing for change, managing change, and reinforcing change.
Preparing for change
Managers with communicative and democratic approach prepared staff for the change. The staff was prepared for change through proper motivational conferences headed by professional heads. An effective leader’s success is associated with the communication.
Managing change
The rehabilitation facility needs to be expanded to be capable of housing more than 124 residents. The staff is available on every day to handle the situations occurring at the Department of Juvenile Justice. With the change of capacity, another change to be introduced is the hiring of more staff and training of current and newly hired staff.
Proper training sessions carried out by managers with leadership abilities will ensure that the change is implemented properly. Once the change implemented, feedback and analyzed, data will help out the managers about the current successful change.
Reinforce Change
For future references, revised change model and strategy can be implemented to improve the rehabilitation facility in future. In the current situation, the rehabilitation facility experienced change to improve further the quality of services given to the detained youth
Leaders’ attributes and change model
Leaders who were involved in implementing the change process in the organization had good communication skills and possessed qualities such as confidence, transparency, and integrity. Managers at organization listened to their staff and satisfied the staff with the change model. The change model that was considered to bring developmental change in organizational structure aimed to train the staff to be more adaptable to new technologies. The mission of Department of Juvenile Justice is to provide a safe environment to the disturbed youth. There is always a need for change at any level and time.
Conclusion
The Department of Juvenile Justice approved the change process followed by implementing change procedures. Change is mandatory for any organization to avoid stagnation. Importantly, the change process cannot be implemented without the guidance of an effective leader who has all the necessary qualities to carry out the process. Department of Juvenile Justice is currently one of the best organizations in Florida that are dealing with the detained youth around the clock. After implementing the change process, positive results were observed. Also, change in the attitude of troubled children who were involved in questionable activities was observed after the implementation of the change process.
