The method that I think would make the greatest different, as it relates to leadership behaviors and promoting cultural integration is providing coaching and feedback. Cultural integration is important because it is key to helping employees adopt the mindset, and invest in the values that are representative of the organizational culture (SIOP, 2016). Coaching has proven an effective way to impact the development of this organizational culture (SIOP, 2016). Coaching can be effectively used to change corporate behaviors (Bracksick, 2007). This is because company leaders are positioned to effect company culture in a positive way, through direct interaction between the desired organizational culture and the organizational employees (SIOP, 2016). According to Breksick (2007), profits can only improve as values become an integrated part of the business’s culture. This change can be directly encouraged through coaching. Coaching encourages individuals to change through ongoing positive interactions, and feedback that is offered constructively when things go wrong.
Coaching is useful because it sets goals, praises when goals are met, and encourages when goals are missed. This includes performance appraisals that are designed to motivate, not punish, and which encourage forward motion toward the set of goals, linking all feedback and coaching to the impact model, or the overall picture for the organizational culture, and ensuring the feedback is presented in a consistent way (Breksick, 2007). It is important to note, however that good coaching ensures that not all feedback is positive, but that it is delivered in an impactful way, and focused on positive results. This can, overtime, ensure that everyone comes out a “winner” and that the gains are shared with others, in order to motivate the organization as a whole (Breksick, 2007).
