The development of western civilization stems over hundred years of societal expansion. Its roots are traced back to Europe and Mediterranean classical ancient times. Western civilization is a development of human civilization that started from the ancient East, and later on spread westwards (Perry12). It is an evolution that involved various regions and cultures, whereby people were able to develop economically, socially, politically, and intellectually. As the western civilization evolved, different cultures and regions impacted one another in one way or the other ranging from the Romans, Greeks, and Hebrews. These impacts brought about by western civilization carried to life, as it is today. Through western civilization, the people were able to learn how to write, smelt metals, improve their art and paintings, and lived in urban areas. Greece is the cradle of western civilization.
The West is a body of thoughts, traditions, beliefs, and values which were forged in the continent of Europe. These are social norms, customs, and ethical values introduced through the western culture. Western civilization originated from the East, which later on spread with colonization in America, Australia and other parts on the continent (Hobson 201). Through the western civilization, the cultures of the modern South and North America have been produced. The western civilization spread through the west to the rest of the world, and this led to the civilization of people around the globe.
Western civilization brought a number of changes and ideas to human life. First, through western civilization, many cities were created as many people started living in urban areas (Rodgers 98). After the creation of many cities, people were able to get an education and this led to an improvement in their lives both socially, and economically. Moreover, it led to the formation of employment opportunities, due to the development of industries which dealt with smelting metals, and architecture (Rodgers 108). Secondly, western civilization made major accomplishments in writing, engineering, architecture, mathematics and science. The people were able to advance their skills in many subjects, thus this helped in improving their lives, since they were now skilled. In addition, through this civilization, many religious traditions of the Christians, Jewish and Muslims were developed in the West. Thirdly, western civilization brought the principle of human dignity. They argue that, human beings are all equal in worth, irrespective of their gender, class, and race. People were able to learn about their rights, and the rights that cannot be taken away from them. Besides, western civilization brought the idea of justice to all, whereby, every one should be judged fairly without any privileges. Additionally, western civilization brought the value of democracy to many nations, whereby they encouraged many nations that, the power to shape the future of a nation belongs to the people and not the leaders. The Greeks are famously known for developing democracy (Spielvogel 128). The people of a nation are to choose their leaders and be involved in running the nation as well as deciding what is good for them. Moreover, western civilization led to the expansion of Christianity, and this was done by the Romans.
In conclusion, western civilization is an accretion of social, political, economic, and intellectual development of human life, since ancient times. It is the development of human civilization, which led to the creation of many cities and advancement in the life of all human beings. The influence of western civilization has contributed to the modern day today, as people advanced in writing, architecture, engineering, mathematics, and science. Western civilization is a development that has contributed to the advancement in democracy, human rights, religion, and justice to all. Hence, western civilization is a development that is progressive and it is through this civilization that the world has grown socially, economically, politically, and education wise. Western civilization has led to the civilization of many nations around the globe.
