The Elemental Principles in the Training of Fire Inspectors
Fire Inspectors must be prepared for various situations that might crop up as a result of fire accidents. The inspectors must be in a position to prevent death and damage due to fire.
The six fundamental principles of training fire inspectors are as follows:
- Never Cross the Capacity Limits
This principle speaks of the fact that any room or building should not be occupied by a number of people that exceed the capacity of design. This ensures that in case there is a fire breaking out, the people inside the room must be able to get out easily. The fire inspectors must be trained in this aspect.
- Separating Flammable Products and Sensitive Areas
On many occasions the fires break out because of the presence of a flammable product in an area sensitive to fire. There must necessarily be a storing place of flammable items. In and around this storage space, no smoking or lighting must be allowed. Similarly, at common areas of meeting and rejuvenating, the flammable products must not be allowed. Even a stray product found in such places must be removed. The fire inspectors must be trained to identify these flammable products.
- Regular Inspections
Despite early warnings, the inspections of the locations under the control of the fire inspector must be carried out regularly. This helps in avoiding issues on a regular basis. Inspection management must be taught to the inspectors.
- Fire Exit Locations
The inspectors must be trained to design and detect fire exit locations for incumbents to escape in case of a fire.
- Fire Drills
The inspectors must also be trained to conduct fire drills. These drills engage the crowd and make them self-sufficient in managing fire situations
- Fire Alarms
Finally the inspectors must know the fire alarm techniques in and out and then train the incumbents of various buildings on the same.
