Introduction
Information systems have developed in its use in organizations. There have been developments and issues that have been implemented for the purpose of iadopting information systems in organizations. This paper will focus on the concept of databases in organizations.
Overview of database concept
Database concept has been used in organizations to present data and information so that it can be accessed and organized in the right way and manner. The database concept has played a key place in improving data management and access. Database systems have been there for a long time in organizations. Database management systems developed to the current state from plain and hard to crack database systems of long time ago. They have developed from hierarchical database concepts to the now relational database system. They have further been developed to other systems that have been known to have better and enhanced management concepts in the world. The development of relational database management system has been in existnec for quite some time now. Database systems have been the most important assets in any organization. It is because of the storage of information and data in these systems that there have been enhancement and developments in the database (Chaffey, and Gareth 82).
Database management systems have been used to store data and information in organizations. Individuals have also used to store their personal data in the database. One of the concepts that has been used by individuals is the management of their contacts and profiles in social media. Each has a database of information that is stored in online for their social media.
The common attitudes towards database systems are that databases are insecure. Most people will fear sharing information through databases because of the fear of losing their privacy to other people. It has been perceived that it is hard having security of data in a database. It is important to understand the security aspects of data in a database and have ways in which the data is secured well in the systems. My attitudes of using database systems are that it is hard to make changes because of the knowledge I have to have while handling databases. I believe that when some data is changed, most of the other information will be changed. It is a myth that has led me to have a phobia towards the use of databases. I also believe that all data that is stored in databases is interrelated. Perhaps it is because of the relational concept that comes with the use of databases. It is one of the requirements that need to be enhanced when handling database systems (Bélanger, and Crossler 87).
There are strengths that are associated with database concept. One of the strength is that it enables people to keep information in an organized manner. The information that has been stored can be accessed and retrieved in a logical manner. It is one of the strategies that has been used in order to have better management of data in a database management system. Also, data in a database can be connected to data in another database. This connection of data and information makes it easy to manage and make relationships between data. Unlike in flat files where there is no connection between the data in the database and even in outside data sources (Laudon, and Laudon 18).
One weakness of the database concept is that it is hard for the common man to manipulate the data and have information that they need. There are many concepts that are required of the users of the database before they are able and capable of making use of the data. It is one of the requirements that need to be out in place to have the data use efficient and optimal. Another weakness is that if there are changes and damages that are done in one part of the database, the damages will be spread to most of the parts. The database need to be protected in order to have ways in which the data will be secured and saved. It is one of the strategies that can be undertaken when handling the database (Stair, and Reynolds 82).
There are views of the future of database concepts and work. One of the development is the development of Data Lake where the data model is no longer needed in order to have data. It is a concept that is being advocated by Curran Chris who is an advisory of PriceWaterCoopers US (Melville 82).
Another trend that is being seen in the database technology is predictive data analytics. It is a trend that is advocated by Loconzolo, a database specialist with Apache systems. With the increase in big data, there has been the need to have procedures and processes which will ensure that there is better management and enhancement of the data.
Another future trend is the ad vocation of NoSQL. It is a new trend which will see users not having to know SQL. It is still a technology that is advocated by Chris Curran
Conclusion
Database technology is increasing to evolve and there are many developments that have been seen to work in the world today. It is one of the technologies that have been seen to be working effectively and in a trending manner.
