This report describes the process of developing game project from scratch through presenting the most important lessons learnt from it, the conclusions drawn on the teamwork, critical description of the teamwork and general summary of the project.
Important Things Learnt
For me the very process of project development was very valuable, as on its example I saw all the stages required to get a successful project: planning, designing, gathering resources, listing requirements, evaluating and maintaining. I also learnt how to use the Gantt charts and Work Breakdown structure in the process of planning, which allowed me to manage time wisely. Owing to efficient work and time management, I gained a positive experience of finishing the work on time. Besides, while preparing the cards with questions for the game, I have learnt about the disasters in the real world that happened due to some simple mistake that could happen at the stage of project development or an error in coding. It also helped me to master the skills and knowledge gained at lectures, as without practice it is impossible, I think.
Working as a Team Member
The first thing that I learnt when being a team member is the importance of teamwork in general. Before this experience I saw that the teamwork was useful, could speed up the process of completion of some little projects, but in this case I saw how it can in fact be the key element of success. In particular, I saw that meeting deadlines is impossible without well-established and organized teamwork; I saw the role of the leader and had a chance to develop my own leadership skills. I learnt that it was important to entrust the team members their part of decision-making, not interfering where it is not necessary. Teamwork also taught me how to solve problems together, manage time effectively, negotiate, discuss and listen to the others’ viewpoints, apply my communications skills and work at multiple tasks as well.
Critique of Teamwork
Overall, I think that our team was successful in approaching and completing the task, and every team member learnt his or her lesson. One of the most important indicator of our success was the fact that we completed it on time and that it turned out to be effective. If I undertook the process once again, I would have spent a bit more time on dividing work between each group member, as I think that this part could have been done better.
Summary
- Three main things I have learnt from doing the assignment: how to work in a team, application of Gantt charts and WBS in project planning, importance of time management.
- Three most enjoyable elements of the assignment: successful finishing of the design, adding pieces to the final look of the project, and designing the poster of the game.
- Three least enjoyable elements: I can think of only one not enjoyable moment – that we did not play the game with team members.
- Ways in which assignment could be improved: I think that it was good already.
