Sex and gender
Sex is biologically and physiological based characteristics that actually define men and women. Sex also refers to nature as well as biological parts that characterized female and male. While, gender refer to the nature and main ideas about characteristics in females and males as well as their behaviors that predominant in any given society at one time. Gender can be defined as the socially constructed roles, activities, behaviors and traits that are considered appropriate in a given society for men and women. Gender offers social expectations for females and males to be feminine and masculine (Grusky, 1994). This process involves the social processes that are learned by people and socialize acting according to the notions of what is appropriate behavior and role as men and women in the society.
Male Privilege
Male privilege is brought by essentialism which is the beliefs of inherent qualities that are indispensable quality. Essentialism distinguishes personality traits that exist in each sex. Privilege in men is caused by gender roles in the society therefore giving an aspect that idea of equality is not equally practiced. In every society females are doubtful about and claims essentialism thus they justify inequality and male privilege. Therefore male privilege can be defined as social theory that argues that masculine have unjustified economic, social and political advantages and rights that are granted to them exclusively on their bases of gender and typically denied to women. Male privilege is real because is dynamic that is used in many countries where men have a say over women. Take an example of man daily life and one can understand how much men work in their respective societies.
Gender socializers are people that inform males and females about their norms and behaviors associated with their sex. These contribute a lot in male-dominated violence in the society by causing break ups and domestic violence through divisive gender expectations mostly in men. Gender differences are caused by difference in socialization. Social class refers as division of people with similar position in social continuum. It also defined as people having same social, education and economic status (Grusky, 1994).
In United States anyone get ahead and have high expectations according to their ambitions after completion of bachelor’s degree. Since that constitution binds everyone in the country and is entitled to equal protection under the law. I should think about my future and go for my ambition since the program creates more career opportunities. I should work hard to achieve what sociologists call stratification which shows distribution and satisfaction of social goods such as income, prestige and wealth (Woodward, & Open University 2004). After completion of bachelor’s degree my social life will gradually change so that I will be able to live in the new environment. Therefore I should observe everything I have learned that involves gender.
Americans lives under social class system therefore the system will enable me to have a better life since it will help me to determine my social class. By considering the following factors will help me to shape my life. The first factor is occupation which determines social class by several reasons. This will enable me to have same social class if I associate myself with my workmates. Under social class one is able to rank himself with people of his education level. As we know education goes hand in hand with occupation therefore my social class will be really be affected by my education level. In class system one is able to achieve personal talents and achieve social class (Woodward, & Open University 2004).
The following are social classes that exist in America
- The upper class
- The middle class
- The working class
- The lower class
America is a third world class therefore making life in America to cop up with social classes so that one can achieve his personal talents and social class. The study of inequality helps that Americans to understand the freedoms and rights in our social life therefore making them to have equality among the society. They lack social mobility to make Americans uniform. It is well noted that social mobility occurs when Americans tend to move across social class boundaries. By doing so it helps them to leave under one social class that they share one common idea (Grusky, 1994).
In America the problem is not the growth it is all about inequality. The resultant is that the richer are getting richer while that middle class are wiped out due to inequality in the country. The reason behind this is because in united states tax cuts to the top income brackets.
There is difference in earning since people are not in the same class. The best solution is that the federal government should tax the bonus profits and pay the corporations and richest people earns. Problems that are involved with criminal justice system are caused by inequality and the growth of corporation includes fear among society after increase in recorded crimes in United States (Woodward, & Open University 2004). Therefore criminal justice systems reproduce inequalities thus affecting the growth of corporation.
