Speech Outline
Specific Purpose: To persuade the audience to accept the fact that vaccination is the only solution to ward off the upcoming generations from deadly diseases.
I INTRODUCTION (Attention)
Attention Material
The pros and cons of vaccination is a topic for heated discussion even among healthcare professionals. Even doctors have contradictory opinions about vaccination.
Thesis and Preview
1. Thesis Statement - In my opinion, vaccination has helped humankind to protect itself from many deadly diseases.
2. Even those who oppose vaccination cannot ignore the fact that deadly diseases like polio and smallpox were controlled due to vaccination.
[Beginning of the Body Speech]
I will explain the importance of vaccination and the researches undertaken in this area.
II BODY (Need)
Point 1: problems related to major epidemics and about the prevalence of deadly transmittable disease in the latter half of the early 1800s in the United States.
Need for action: The project conducted by the University of Pittsburgh launched a Tycho database, which says about the problems related to major epidemics and about the prevalence of deadly transmittable disease
Example, Narrative or Testimony: Introduction of effective vaccinations for the majority of the diseases since 1924 till now helped to prevent about 103 million instances of polio, rubella, mumps, measles, pertussis, hepatitis-A, and diphtheria. (Ronald-bailey)
Satisfaction: Vaccination is very important to maintain the health of the future generation.
Point 2: On the contrary, Jeffrey A. Singer argues that there is no surety that all those who are vaccinated against a particular disease will develop a complete immunity to that particular microbe.
Description of the solution: There are people who are born with “natural” resistance to some microbes and other pathogens that cause the diseases. (Singer, Jeffrey A.)
How solution satisfies the need: Based on a report presented by Sandy Reider MD, an evaluation of the data on the effectiveness of vaccination shows that the death rate from communicable diseases was on a track of decline.
Plan of action: However, vaccination offered an additional protection to the more vulnerable population. (Reider, Sandy.)
Satisfaction: Even though communicable diseases are on a track of decline, vaccination will offer additional protection
Point 3: Numerous children were not fully vaccinated due to their young age, and many such children die every year as they are infected by elder non-vaccinated children.
Description of the solution: To help those children, it is imperative that adults and children should be vaccinated.
Plan of action: Vaccination helps to safeguard the entire family and also supports to lower the spread of contagious diseases to other individual associating with the affected individuals.
III CONCLUSION
Summary: Lack of proper vaccination also affects immune-compromised individuals like cancer patients and recipient of transplanted organs. (Vaccine Basics) After considering all these aspects, I strongly plead for the need of vaccination of all children to mold a healthy society.
Call for action: If proper vaccinations are not offered to children, they might carry pathogens to other infants who cannot be vaccinated due to their extremely young age. Hence, all children should be vaccinated.
