Genesis Healthcare is a healthcare provider for post-acute cases that was established over thirty years ago. The company started off with a capital of $32 million, acquiring many facilities in diverse parts of the United States. For the past five years, Genesis company acquired and merged with other healthcare provider, thus stirring the establishment of one of the biggest nursing providers in the country. In 2015, the company boasted of over 1 billion worth of total assets which demonstrated a considerable growth compared to the 800 million and 142 million total assets in 2014 and 2013 respectively. Currently employing over 90,000 employees, this healthcare provider reported a total revenue of 5.6 billion in 2015 which is higher than the 4.7 billion total revenue in 2014. (New York, 2016). Consequently, the considerable growth and asset acquisitions in the past few years improved Genesis’ ability to reach out to a larger number of patients. However, some of the challenges faced by the company involved overseeing the overall 34-state operation in the United States.
Genesis healthcare operates under the leadership of the current CEO, George Hager, Jr (Genesis, 2017). Its operation is segmented in individual centers, which are evaluated based on their performance and effectiveness. The process of evaluating each center based on individual centers creates an internal competition within the company. This competition among the centers provides assurance to the management that each center works to the accomplish the company’s objective. On the other hand, an unregulated internal competition can have a negative impact to the company such as the likelihood of motivating deviation from ethical conduct. Nevertheless, the current organizational structure of Genesis is well-organized that it aligns with the company’s plans, missions and objectives. The management strategy is to build on a dedicated employees’ as team members who are geared towards providing the most specialized care possible.
