Spatial Analysis and Dr. John Snow
Given the relationship between the cholera epidemic and the locations of water pumps, it may be concluded from the Dr. John Snow's dot map that the pump on the Broad Street in London was the source of cholera epidemic – since the number of dots indicating the cases of cholera in 1854 are concentrated mostly around that pump.
The Geographic Continuum
In my point of view, this course is situated on the holistic synthesis, since the topics studies covered both the sphere of psychical geography and human one.
The Five Key Themes of Geography
The five key themes of geography are its core constituents which help to identify and describe any place efficiently and extensively. The themes are the following Location, Place, Movement, Region, and Human-Earth Relationships. Location can be defined as a place where something is sited. A place is a certain area or region, like a city or the mountain ridge, or a clearly identified location, like a café, shop, or a park. Region, in turn, is commonly a vast area which is unified due to its common characteristic. Movement is a process indicating in certain changes, such as formation, diffusion, or dissipation. Human-Earth relationships imply the influences which humans make on a certain environment, as well as the impact of the environment on humans.
The Ozone 'Hole' and Climate Change
Climate change is highly observable on the map of Arctic sea ice extent. However, while being the fact which is statistically proven by the collected data from the scientists, a great number of people keep being ignorant of the clamant data about climate change. I believe it is deeply rooted in the human's mentality that it doesn’t concern them, thereby leading them to the thought that they shouldn’t care about it at all.
Is it Possible to Use Up All of Lake Superior?
Google image of the Aral Sea in 2012 shows that it keeps shrinking vastly and that only a small portion of the original lake remains.
The Black Rhinoceros
I believe that the humans have no right to destroy and endanger any of the human species. The nature is complex and interconnected, and it works perfectly to keep its balance. Yet the intrusion of humanity into the laws of nature commonly tends to cause nothing but harm. Therefore endangering certain species might lead to some highly adverse effects which were beyond human comprehension.
Grass (Asian) Carp Invasion in North America
So long as the Asia carp has already made a serious damage, they definitely need to be somehow controlled. The possible ways to stop them would be to design a particular blockade or a set of obstacles which would disable them to expand their territory and move one, and then to hunt them and use for food. Using some poison to kill them would be not quite good idea as it could poison and negatively impact the environment they live in and other creatures living in it.
