As far as my career is concerned, my biggest aspiration is to make a difference in the life of children. It was during my freshman year at Leesville High School when I was attracted to exploring the various aspects of child development and psychology. Over the past ten years, my passion to work with children has impacted my life tremendously. My parents have always instilled in me that in order to make a difference in the world, I must first serve others by helping in my community, and this inspired me to make one of my short term goals to acquire a Bachelor’s degree in child psychology, and emphasize more on child behavioral development.
During high school, I got the opportunity to work with young children. I gained valuable experience by actively volunteering as a teacher’s assistant at the children’s ministry of the Triangle Christian Center, my church in Raleigh, NC. Volunteering at the church, and organizing and participating in fundraisers has enabled me to understand how children behave, grow and think. Moreover, my vision of impacting our next generation of children has further evolved as a result of attending several seminars and completing courses in early childcare development and parenting skills during my junior year.
I had quite a few ups and downs during my high school year, and there are several reasons why my GPA is not as high as I would like it to be. During sophomore year, some courses were challenging. Then in my junior year, I had to transfer to another high school. Moreover, another reason is that I have been actively participating in various extracurricular activities, such as DECA, Spanish Club, Southern, and the Spartans track team. I am also the Secretary of FBLA and have received a certificate for attending and completing a Financial Futures Program from UNC Chapel Hill. I have already started to serve the children in my local community by providing childcare services for several families. I am fond of Theatre Arts; hence I spend most of my free time writing plays and poetry, and I have been fortunate enough to secure three major lead roles in three plays.
Of course, there is no excuse for falling short of reaching academic excellence, which has always been my ultimate goal, and at the moment, my concentration is completely focused on bettering my grades and raising my GPA. I believe that being granted a place in (Name of University) will not only broaden my perspective of child development and psychology, but will also help me work hard to get the finest grades. I believe that by pursuing my career goal of becoming a child psychologist and starting private practice will grant me an essential understanding of child development. Acquiring a Bachelor’s degree in child psychology from (Name of University) will allow me to fully appreciate the educational, emotional, physical and psychological growth of the children from our future generation.
