My passion is cooking particularly because I enjoy identifying and eating new foods. Occasionally, I peruse the internet or talk to people from various cultures to find new recipes. My kitchen is my go-to place when I want to unwind. I have learned to prepare meals and cuisines from different cultures such as the Mexican Guacamole, Tikil Gomen from Ethiopia, Beef Curry from Bangladesh, Mexican rice, Szechwan Shrimp, etc. I also enjoy making beverages and cocktails such as the Spanish Sangria and Caribbean Cocktails. This essay conceptualizes on the global nature of my cooking passion.
Before watching the video provided by the Professor, I was not aware of how my passion had exposed me to global perspectives of thinking and appreciating different cultures. To me, cooking was just something I enjoyed doing and finding international recipes added the gist to the activity. However, after looking at my passion from a globalized view, it became clear of how the changes in today’s environment have exposed as to new and interesting aspects (IBUS-130, Intro and Prof background). The internet has played a fundamental role in my search for international meals, cuisines, and beverages. Also, the interactions with individuals from different ethnicities and cultures have also assisted in developing my passion.
The global nature of a passion can either hinder or improve the outcomes of the activity. In my situation, it enhances the development of my cooking passion to greater lengths since I am more aware of various cultures in the globe. Also, the knowledge can allow me to interact with people from the different ethnicities. Global passions allow individuals to identify their strengths and create a meaning in their lives (Aiello and Raffaele, 18). However, when internationalization makes the passion become addictive and harmful to the well-being of the person, then it can be described as a hindrance. An example can be drawn from internet hacking, cyber bullying, gambling, and fraud.
