Global warming is one of deleterious consequences of climatic change. Increased level of carbon dioxide emission and other pollutants such as chlorofluorocarbons contribute to unprecedented increase in the atmospheric temperature which dictates human survival in this planet. A continuation of this trend will eventually lead to a wipe out of the living creatures on the earth’s surface through resulting effects such as heat wave related deaths as well as flooding. Global warming has contributed to several cases of heat wave related deaths around the world. It has also denied wild animals their natural habitats through forest fires which continue to threaten the existence of these animals and human beings living around these forests.
As the whole world is committed to maintaining global warming to about two degrees Celsius while maintaining green house gas concentration below 800pmm, there is need for human beings to start living in weatherized houses which are designed to limit unnecessary use of energy either through heating or air-conditioning. Home owners will have to abandon the old building techniques and embrace environmentally friendly construction methods that will perfectly insulates the house and guarantee minimum energy use. However, minimizing home energy use can only be done to a great extent which will make the home owners comfortable and happy while ensuring they do not miss the comfort of life through the use of appropriate energy in making their life enjoyable and satisfying.
Adapting environmentally friendly housing construction system to minimize home energy use so as to maintain global warming temperature below two degrees Celsius will force many home owners to dig deep their pocket to finance this noble initiative to save planet earth. A compulsory directive by governments to home owners to embrace such new technologies may spark rebellion due to high cost involved and this may make it difficult to successfully implement the initiative.
Global warming is such a deadly threat to life and every effort should be marshalled to ensure home owners use environmentally friendly sources of energy and modern housing designs to eliminate house heating and air-conditioning which have been fueling high eclectic bills. However, the benefit of adopting such technologies should be clearly outlined to avoid any form of rebellion from home owners which are instrumental in realizing a habitable planet in this era of drastic climate change.
