After reading and listening to this article and the radio discussion interview, I have realized that despite the general assumption that with the increase in globalization, which means being able to communicate with everyone else in the words of the Dr. Berger: globalization even led to the rise in religion. Additionally, religious leaders have used techniques to ensure that their followers understand the meaning of globalization and the need to integrate with other religions in order to achieve their goals.
According to the second interviewee, Dr. Kanter, I find her works and experience relates to that of mother Teresa, especially because both of them worked with people of religions that were different from their own. Dr. Berger also gives a personal example with his family, where his granddaughter has to discuss with her neighbors about the differences in their religion.
Most of the texts speak to my several questions of whether a possibility exists to make people of different religions could work together in the same environment peacefully. I have learnt that according to the life experiences of Mother Teresa, Dr. Kanter and Dr. Berger’s family, globalization has brought people to live in a world that is mixed up of individuals from different religions.
The thing that I found most interesting in these works is when the old Saudi Arabian king introduced telephone conversation and Muslims rejected the idea to the work of the devil, he decided to put one person at one end of the telephone to read the Quran and it was heard on the receiving end. Therefore, he convinced the Muslim leaders that if it was the work of the devil then it could not carry Quran messages, and they eventually accepted the idea. Finally, the most important thing for me in the two readings is that people can live and work together regardless of their religious differences.
