Admission Essay
I have long watched the high rises of JP Morgan Chase, Goldman Sachs and the Citigroup. They tell me, ‘The sky is the limit – you can either climb or soar!’ I would like to climb before I soar. I want to train my wings to fight the tempestuous winds of competition that the field of finance wields across the globe. Wall Street has been in a state of revolution, if not rebellion, with the people of the nation increasingly losing faith in the sanctity with which modern day corporations operation. The closure of several major financial institutions during and post the global economic downturn of 2009 has further depleted their confidence of how the finances of such organizations are governed. While I have long aspired to make a mark in the field of finance, these historic events have greatly inspired me to adopt a more moralistic and ethical approach towards it. My family prides itself in a long string of members who have been a significant part of the force that is Wall Street. I have strived to excel in my own right, an effort that reflects in the consistent improvement in my GPA as well as a growing number of Advanced Placement Courses that I have undertaken. With credibility of the finance and corporate world in doldrums, after graduating from Notre Dame, I would like to apply the ethical leadership skills and knowledge that I have acquired here to my profession. I will embark on a steep journey of regaining the community, and the nations trust and faith in the finance system and corporate governance.
“This is a place that turns out special people.” – Tom Mendoza
It is the Ask More of Business philosophy at Mendoza that first drew my attention towards this glorious institution. After thoroughly studying and understanding the values that drive this program, I realized that it was a near twin to the virtues that I hold dear to my heart. The ore philosophies behind individual integrity, greater good, and effective organizations is something that I not only related to but firmly believe in. The curriculum, dedication to meaningful and holistic student development, and crème de la crème faculty fits my ambition to reclaim the credibility of the world of finance like a glove. According to Businessweek, the Mendoza College of Business boasts an excellent record for recruitment in the field of finance. With its focus on ethics and value based leadership, the program is in perfect tandem with the virtues of morality in business that I steadfastly adhere to. I am also drawn to the close knit community of Notre Dame. With a relatively small population, the scope of making a difference to the progress and development of the society is not only feasible but tangible too. I fell in love with the rich heritage and history. Its people, while deeply rooted in their culture, radiate an air of pride and enthusiasm that is aptly captured in the infectious football fight song “Cheer, Cheer for old Notre Dame”. I dream of taking up this chorus as a student of this magnificent institution that inspires moral courage among its people – students and alumni alike – to be better. It would be a true honor to carry and uphold the flaming torch of responsibility, ethics and conscientiousness that Mendoza stands for.
