Speaker Role/Audience: Delivering an after-dinner speech to appreciate the host and to give tribute to the host and to the dinner party. The audience comprises a group of friends from school and our neighborhood. Coming together to share dinner and celebrate a long-standing friendship. Driving home the fact that indeed true friendship is golden, and golden is true friendship.***
Purpose of Speech: The speech is to entertain the guests after dinner by presenting a humorous recollection of our friendship and to appreciate each member of the party.
I. Introduction: Comment on the unity of the group of unique people and add a quote by Pam Brown. “A friendship can weather most things and thrive in thin soil; but it needs a little mulch of letters and phone calls and small, silly presents every so often - just to save it from drying out completely.”(Brown, para.1).
II. Body:
- Need for Unity
- Appreciate the members for keeping the unity and holding the friendship together. Restate the importance of keeping the group united and the importance of sharing.
- Illustrate the benefits of unity by citing instances when the unity of the group has benefited the members.
- Re-cap of the journey of the group and the friendship shared
- A short background of the friendship and how each member came to join the group.
- A short history cum profile for each member of the group, stating the important highlights of their involvement in the group.
- Eventful Occurrences Throughout the Friendship
- Give highlights of stories from events that have cemented the friendship like birthday parties, funerals, graduations and relationships.
- The journey of friends is a circus***. Tales of embarrassing moments and funny experiences for each member.
III. Conclusion: Just like brothers and sisters, true friendship creates very strong bonds. ***Restating the importance of sticking together and the value of such friendship. Golden friendships take a lot of work to create and build. So precious is the friendship shared.
