I am a Muslim based in the Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia is the heart of the Muslim culture. Most of the citizens in the country believe in the sharia laws. In the country, there are many Muslims with the Arab culture in their bases. I am a student based from the Arabian culture with the Muslim believes.
I finished high school in the year 2012. By then I had many ambitions to study further in the process of pursuing my career. I have explored several careers and finally landed on the chemical engineering major. This career is involved with the manufacturing processes as well as the processing stages in many industries.
I sort to work in the United States of America a state called Texas. I had applied for a job in the Texas A&M for their strong engineering department. From my culture, I sort to transfer to a place where I would get the diverse cultures as well as ideas. United States of America was the ideal place for me to experience that. Before moving to the United States of America, I had to learn the English course, which is the national and common language.
I was among the members of the private Saudi Arabian company's abroad full-scholarship program was taught English in the Upenn’s English language program for international students. My experience in both areas was full of interaction with members of different society .there were English students from Korea, Japan, Columbia, and Venezuela. Each of the students had a different culture from the other. Having the different culture is a major impact in my life and character. When I transferred to America, I was able also to meet Americans, which we made friends and interacted. They taught me their different cultural behaviors.
Living together with different cultures is a big mark in one’s life as it affects different aspect of life. Diversity among cultures brings up several aspect of living. As a Saudi Arabian, living with the American culture among other cultures from other countries change my character in many ways
It is very important to live in such a condition as it makes one very diverse in thinking as well as character. When one joins such a society, he or she is usually equipped with the believes of the culture he or she belongs. As I joined the American society, I was a Muslim who believed fully in the Arab culture. In the American society, I found other cultures, which were from different mine. It was my duty to make sure that as much as I maintained my culture ii was also able to interact with the other culture as they also did the same.
The different culture brings up a pool of ideas as well as other sharing of knowledge. It is very important as it brings together the different cultures, which have different ways of doing things. The diversity comes up with the best idea and implementation.
The cultures have changed my life and character in several ways. Interacting with the different cultures has in one way or the other my way of doing things. When I joined the United States of America for studies and work, my culture was only based on the Islam and the Arab cultures. This kind of culture dominated all my behaviors and characters. They based my decision and all what I did. This however in some way contradicted with the cultures of these people I lived with as well as the home based culture. In the American culture, some of the ways of doing things were different from my culture. Some of these ways includes the language, food, clothes among other cultural differences. It is then that need arose to make adjustments on my way of doing things too. This was in order to suite the majority where there was necessary.
One of the cultural aspects that I had to change on was language. My languages were Arab, which was rare in my new environment. Since I wanted to continue communicating with my colleagues and share ideas, it was necessary for me to train the American English language. This was an important aspect in preparing my stay in the country. The change in the language was very necessary in order to continue living comfortably in the country.
The other necessary change in culture was the kind of food I take in the new environment. The cultural food in the American culture was different from the Muslim food. In the American culture, the food was different from the Muslim food. For this reason, it was expensive to buy the food, which was termed as special. Adapting the new United States food was an achievement in streamlining the expenses in the stay.
The way of clothing in the United States of America was different from my culture. The weather conditions overall contributed to the differences. In this condition, I had to change to adopt the new ways of clothing.
Culture is important. It indentifies ones origin and identity.however, under some conditions, in order to live a streamline life, there is need to change the culture and adopt the new one which is suitable according to the conditions.
s
