Violent Crimes
Al Shabaab refers to a jihadist terrorist group that operates in the eastern parts of the African continent, particularly in Somalia. The group originated from the militant section of the supreme Islamic courts union (ICU) in 2006 with the aim of forcing the democratic government to allow the establishment of an independent Islamic state in the country (Siegel 153). The Al Shabaab group is a form of an indoctrinated extremism as the group mostly targets the Muslim faithful to recruit them into the movement.
The extremist group's main ideology is to force the formation of an Islamic state in the Somalia country in order to practice the restricted ancient regulation of the sharia law. The terrorist nature of the group is attributed to the failure by its leaders in the attempt to convince the government to initiate programs that allow the practice of the law in the formal processes (Siegel 153). As a result, they resorted into the extremism ways to topple the government into agreeing their demands at the expense of the lives of innocent people they kill occasionally while claiming responsibility.
The spread of innocent killings by the terrorist group led the Africa country especially in the east African community to provide military support to the Somali government. As a result, the Al Shabaab group as well obtained support from the Middle East in form of intelligence and machinery to advance their activities beyond the Somali borders. This resulted in several terrorist attacks in bordering countries like Kenya where a couple of terrorist incidences led to deaths of over a hundred innocent lives. In addition, the Al Shabaab terrorist group takes government officials, AMISOM forces, diplomats and property destruction as means to further their agenda of the Somali government and the world in general, for example, the destruction of the British Broadcasting Corporation buildings in 2010 in Somalia (Siegel 154).
