Dear (Name of the contact person at LAPD),
I am writing to you in regards to my disqualification from the Polygraph examination in 2009, which has barred me from proceeding any further in the hiring process, despite passing the Personal Qualification Essay. The grounds on which I wish to appeal are that the circumstances that led to my disqualification are regretful. I have taken a bold approach in an attempt to redeem myself for the mistakes by joining the USA Army Reserves. Besides, I have disjoined myself from the negative influence that indirectly led to the unfortunate dismissal from the hiring process. I believe the redemption has geared me up in exploring my law enforcement passion and my reinstatement to continue with the hiring process is apparent.
I admit; I made grievous decisions in my past, and it is not my intention to justify myself in any manner, but rather to give my side of the story. On the first note, I was involved in a hit-and-run incident in which I broke a grocery store’s board sign and ran over a curb. My decision of leaving the accident scene was influenced by the fact that I was tired after a long day at work, something that hindered my thinking capability. Moreover, I was involved in a defrauding scandal after undergoing appendectomy surgery in my early 20s due to the inability to afford the medical bill. Also, I defrauded my employer of $75, which was part of a tip, contrary to the rules of the company. Lastly, I have ever smoked marijuana in two occasions out of peer pressure, after which I restrained from drug abuse. I admit I was young and made wrong decisions in the past. I understand I did not work according to the ethics and standards that are required in the Police Department as I committed a number of fallacies that resulted in failing in the polygraph, yet I still went on and joined the Police Service. I admit to have committed the irregularities due to my poor judgment, but I promise not to repeat them.
Moreover, my passion of becoming a police officer has pushed me into making amendments on any character that will hinder me from being part of your fraternity. It is my belief that if you grant me a chance to continue in the hiring process, I will be able to apply my adeptness in law enforcement, garnered through my experience in the Army Forces, and I will help other citizens to restrain from committing the mistakes I committed myself, in the past. I need to lead by example in my bid to enforce the law while ameliorating the well-being of the citizens. I have come to realize that learning from mistakes and being devoted into becoming a better person is self-fulfilling and a wise initiative that one can take. Given this, it is my humble request that you see me through this issue because I am a transformed person, who wants to explore his passion through the police force.
Based on this information, I am requesting you to reconsider your previous decision and allow me to continue in the hiring process. Indeed, my four-year experience in the Armed forces has equipped me with self-discipline and integrity, besides the several awards I have received. With due respect, you can rely on my solemn declaration in adhering to all the further requirements on your part and cope with all the commitments.
Please consider and consent to my application for reinstatement in the hiring process in the Los Angeles Police Department. The hiring and recruitment process is my passion, and I find the obligation to be an incredible fascinating process to me. I would like to appeal to your consideration of my case and would like to urge you to reinstate me to continue in the hiring process.
Through writing this letter of entreaty, I am hopeful that you will consider my request and grant me the chance to go through the hiring process. Also, a chance to dedicate a great covenant of exertion to attain the most unprejudiced resolution in due matter. Kindly understand how important the hiring process is important to me.
Thanks for considering this appeal, and I hope you will consider all the aforementioned circumstances in reaching a fair decision on the matter in due time.
Sincerely, Name.
