- Introduction
Quote: The basic building block of the society is family that essentially arises from marriage unions.
Thesis: Marriage unions have changed for the worst in the recent times.
- Aspects- Marriage institution has changed due to the increased cases of social prejudice and racial discrimination in the society. This has largely affected the marriage institutions as individuals are more concerned about the race and nationality of their partners in their quest to reduce social alienation and discrimination from the rest of the society; basing on racial discrimination that has become predominant in the American society.
This institution of marriage has turned out for the worst as the society continues to compromise on values and morally ordained codes of conducts uphold in the confine of marriage. The institution which was once sacred and largely respectable, has since turned for the worst due to moral degradation; that is slowly “eating up” the society.
- Argument –Thesis: Marriage unions have changed for the worst in the recent times.
The basis for my argument is on the changes experienced in conducting social roles and values.
Set-up: Changes in the societal roles have overtime changed the dynamics of marriage institution.
Reason: The main cause of these changes and conflict can be essentially associated to technological changes and embracing of the western culture among other foreign cultures from across the world.
Explicate: In line with this argument and thesis, marriage has changed for the worst fundamentally due to high demands and expectations from one or both partners. For instance, women demanding equal rights as their men counterparts in the marriage; such was not the case in previous years hence the basis of change. In essence, the argument is that: women have essentially contributed to the marriage failure in recent times.
Argument 2: Marriage unions have changed for the worst in the recent time. This has been as a result of changes in preferences and values.
Set up: Marriage has significantly changed as the association that was essentially between men and women creating a union or couple have since changed as the society has become more liberal and lenient.
Reason: The reason for such changes arise from curiosity and adopting of new ways of life; including sexual orientation and preferences in the recent days. It serves to confirm the viability of the thesis and sets up the foundation for subsequent discussion.
Explicate: The society (America) has now embraced same-sex unions demonstrating the practicability of the argument. Marriage as an institution has been one of the most affected sectors; with the advent of new culture and technological advancement on the global platform.
Thesis: This argument echoes the sentiments of the thesis that Marriage unions have changed for the worst in the recent times as the society compromises in its values and morals.
When the union is not made public and instead done in secrecy depicts that the union is not tolerated by the society. It is evident that if the union is not done in public portrays lapses in the relationship. Relationships that meet the societal expectations have the courage to go out in the public domain without fear of being questioned or criticized by the rest of the community and vice versa.
Viewing marriage as a less than permanent relationship has led to increased cases of marriage break-ups as partners’ commitment to one another is significantly jeopardized. Whenever married couples fail to view their marriage as a lasting union tends significantly to reduce the level of commitment between the partners hence affecting the stability of the marriage.
The social dynamics of the relationship between the partners in the current era have no long-term plans but instead live only in the present; and this has logically affected the marriage institution. It is important for both partners to demonstrate commitment to their relationship to guarantee its sustainability.
Thesis & Conclusion
I fully agree with the notion that marriage institution has significantly changed for the worst in the recent times in all aspects of the institution compared to the olden days. This has been largely influenced by with the advent of technological advancement, media, social sites and assimilation of cultures from other foreign states and immigrant communities. Social changes that are not morally and ethically right with reference to the American society needs to be changed accordingly to build a credible marriage institution.
