In this paperwork, I am going to discuss one of Thoreau’s main points in his essay- On the Duty of Civil Disobedience. It is important to note that Thoreau wrote the essay, on the Duty of Civil Disobedience, as a remonstration against an unfair, but fashionable war and the perpetual, but admired organization of slave possessing.
The work of Thoreau, according to my observation, is, more, based on political theory. In the essay, Thoreau depicts several hypothetical claims about the scenery of democracy and the connection between the inhabitant and the government. Thoreau argues that the government should be based on conscience and that general public should stop associating with an unfair government. It is worth noting that Thoreau was not after the instant abolition of the government, but was asking for the existence of a healthier government. Thoreau was pressing for the existence of a government, whereby, wrong and right is decided by conscience and not by the majority. It is, therefore, important to note that the notion of individualism is brought out clearly in the essay. Thoreau declines the view that a person must forgo or marginalize her standards out of faithfulness to her government. To make his work clear to all about individualism; Thoreau argues that by answering to the majority, democracies counter the needs of the strongest crowd, not the most righteous or solicitous lot. It is, therefore, important to note that a government founded on this principle, the majority rule, cannot be based on justice according to Thoreau view.
