Introduction
Illegal immigration in US is one of the root causes of economic crisis. Immigration mainly takes place across the southern border and areas bordering Mexico; this is due to inefficient measures set out to manage this menace. In the year 2007, illegal immigration was an all-time high at 12.2 million illegal immigrants who traversed and gained entry into the US. 6.9 million Of these illegal aliens were from Mexico. 5.65 million Came from other parts of the world. While the remaining number were victims whose visas had expired. Texas, Florida and New Jersey are among the states that have the highest number of illegal immigrants. Other states like; Illinois, California and New York have shown a positive reduction in the number of immigrants gaining entry into these states (Forsberg 17). Illegal immigration makes negative impact on the stable economic state of the US. This is due to the simple reason that these immigrants enjoy free services form the state and don’t pay their taxes. Services such as; free health care guaranteed security among others that these illegal immigrants get access to. One of the major economic crimes that they commit is that; they enjoy all these services without paying for them. This affects the state of the economy negatively due to an imbalance in the budget. Thesis statement; what are some of the possible ways that can be used to stop the illegal immigration menace in United States? There are plenty of means that can be used to avert immigration menace. This can be discussed below;
Electronic verification of the workers; E-verify
Illegal immigrants migrate into the country to look for jobs. This is due to the attractive nature of compensation for working in any organization or firm. We have plenty of casual jobs that can be offered to inexperienced persons. Before employment,social security number, is issued to the worker without necessarily ascertaining for the registration status of the person. Therefore, the federal government can use this security number to inspect the citizenship status for the working population in the US. It can be realized by investing highly in new technology. Technology that supports automatic verification of an individual can be adopted to determine for the immigration status of that person. This needs plenty of resources in order to achieve it. Germany and Switzerland are examples of countries that have adopted this technology and positive reduction in the number of illegal immigrants was achieved.
Effective visa program
Illegal immigrants do not only include the number of people crossing the border illegally. It can also involve the valid visa holders who get into the country legally, but don’t go back to their countries of origin after the expiration of their visas. It is provided in the immigration law that; every visa holder ought to return the I-94 forms immediately before their visas expire (Bhagwati 13). This allows for re-consideration for being awarded visa extension. Due to the nature of being uncertain whether visa extension is to be granted, most of them chose to stay in the US without returning their visas. This contributes to illegal immigration; thus an effective visa program ought to be found. Tracking down of these persons revoking their visa status should be adopted. Plenty of resources in terms of technology and revue need to be injected to discover that this program is adopted.
Finish the fence
Erecting border point’s fences should be found. Border point’s fence prevents the illegal immigrants from gaining access into the country. Areas like, the northern region bordering Mexico have giant fences (James 10). This prevents the immigrants from gaining entry into the country. Immigrants prefer using regions where fence is non-existent. Deepening revenue resources into this program contributes to a significant reduction of illegal immigrants gaining access into US. Therefore, the national treasury ought to consider the viability of this program and deepen more funds to support this program.
Permanent deportation of victims
Illegal immigrants are fond of being deployed back to their countries of origin for states disciplinary action. This does not end the entire cycle of illegal immigration victims. After the disciplinary action, these persons can decide to apply to be a US citizen. Probability provides that, they may be granted the visa hence being a legal immigrant. The state should come up with a system whereby, these illegal immigrants DNA sample and fingerprints are taken. Immediately after deportation, these persons should never be allowed entry into the US (Kathy 24). This reduces the number of illegal immigrants that plans to migrate into the country illegally. Therefore, the government should consider this idea as an alternative to averting alarming illegal immigrants.
Conclusion
Illegal immigration into the US is a great concern to the future of the country. Due to the simple fact that; the future of the country depends on the positive trend of the economy, allowing more of this illegal immigrants works to undermine the economic status of the country. Therefore, the government should adopt new technology and provide more resources to the department concerned with immigration, in order to curb this menace.
