Effects of Social Media in the Realms of Sexuality, Communication and Personal InteractionSocial media has become a risk to its user’s on sexuality, communication and personal interaction mainly affecting the younger generation. This has led to deterioration of the community’s morality.Social media has affected inter personal interaction resulting into increased social isolation, depression and cyber bulling. Social media has replaced tangible forms of contact among human beings. The article (Bernie Froese, 2008) about bullying getting digital explains that the different social classes that exist on social media have become the basis for cyber bullying where groups rise against other peer groups and bully them. This results into negative effects like suicide, psychological problems, school violence and academic deterioration. Loli the 4chan girl became anti-social due to the exclusion by friends because of her position in social media. She lost friends with her name and that of her family getting damaged. The society’s sexuality has changed due to social media. The article (Nancy Jo Sales, 2013) about friends without benefits shows that ease and availability of internet access has led to teens moving into the porn world which has consequently affected the society’s gender roles. Peers in the social media teach that women should be submissive in social roles and outright sex. Social media has become a platform of sex chatting; relationship lies and stalking. Women are increasingly becoming objects of men satisfaction. Laura in a mission to become a sexy babe undergoes labia surgery because her boyfriend thought it was unattractive. Men have no respect for women, always wanting to fuck them. The article (Todd Melby, 2012) on contemporary sexuality describes the rise in erotic photos snapping and ‘Sexting’ showing that people are using social media to share erotic material of their bodies or their lovers. This has corrupted the society’s sexual roles and orientation.Social media has led people to move into communication with respondents who corrupt their morals. Communication is an important tool in correcting moral wrongs in the society. The chain of communication has broken between parents, children, religious leaders, and teachers. The article (Paris Strom and Robert Strom, 2012) examines the children and adolescent social networking and how this can be used to contribute to the children’s growth and development. There have been significant changes in children’s communication; some social sites are appealing to the teens because they give them opportunities to meet friends, express their ideas to their peers happens without interruption or correction by the adults. This predisposes the kids to misleading diverse opinions. The article (Allie Conti, 2013) is about a girl named Loli-chan who grows up in the social medial from a tender age and becomes so popular to the pedophiles. The girl gets into online life where she manages to get boyfriends. However, her real life deteriorates drastically due to people discovering her online photos. This greatly affects her psychologically since her name, and that of her family is spoilt.
As opposition, according to the article Jeffrey Yan (2008) on social technology being a new medium in the classroom says that teachers, job recruiters and trainers have used it to change people’s life by impacting on their communication with other people. Some sites are transformative because they allow people to discuss beneficial topics. Students are able to coordinate between social media and academic blogs.
