According to Aristotle, people’s activities in accordance to virtue and excellence define their happiness. Happiness is attained as the final end. Aristotle suggests that this end is self-sufficient. This means that a good that involves actions, is desirable for its sake, and it is happiness (the end action). Every human-being strive for some end at some point in life. The objective of every pursuit of every individual is at some good, achieved through actions. The road towards that end should be accompanied with active virtue life. Life of virtue will ultimately bring an individual closer to the end- the happiness. As people associate living well with happiness, such ideas and reasoning lacks credibility. This is because individuals take different accounts in determining their happiness. For instance, one could say that happiness will come when they are healthy, that is if they are ill. Others could say when they are wealthy, that is if they are poor. Therefore, happiness is not a matter of the majority plainly view and obvious thoughts of pleasure, honor and wealth.
In this regard, Michael Bloomberg, the billionaire and mayor of New York City still has to find happiness. Albeit all the riches Michael enjoys, the mayor is on the way to reach the highest possible point in his life. As a politician, that highest point will be characterized with fame, more wealth, power and authority. Although Michael seems to have a good path of life at the moment as many could think, he is still struggling to achieve happiness. In Aristotle’s view, all Michael Bloomberg actions are merely part of the journey towards the bigger ambitions of the final end actions- the happiness.
