According to the film END CIV, civilization originated from the word ‘civis’ that meant cities. The film therefore defines civilization as a culture with various stories, various artifacts and organizations that facilitate the emergence of cities. The definition of a city is important in defining civilization so as to distinguish it from the villages and camps. A city is a place with dense population who lives permanently and import food and other necessities in life. The people who live in the villages are therefore not civilized whereas the people who live in cities are said to be civilized. According to the film, other definitions are biased since they were asserted by individuals who thought that their culture was more superior to other cultures.
Derrick is against the fact that civilization is sustainable. He argues that especially in the industrial world where there are a lot of conflicts between people, civilization is unsustainable. According to derrick, civilization will ever change and therefore it is not expected that the current state of civilization will last forever.
The other premise that derrick is against is that communities readily accept civilization and hence they easily change their culture, allow exploitation of their resources and as a result, their community ceases to exist. Derrick argues that communities are reluctant to change their culture completely. They also resist exploitation of their natural resources such as minerals. Therefore a community does not cease to exist.
Derrick is also against the premise that civilization is redeemable. The argument is that civilization is a continuous process that will continue until the whole world is completely destructed. It is not possible to return to the level of civilization that was present many years ago.
Derrick is also against the premise that civilization will at one time crash. According to Derrick, civilization will end only when the world ends when Jesus comes to the world. It cannot be crashed by any human being.
