A team of American hockey players were able to beat their opponent by forming a strong team. Researches that have been carried out on team work indicate that many firms, which have adopted team work, have improved their performances. As a result, many firms have embraced teamwork in their operations. Group and teamwork involve different groups of people working together in order to maximize their efficiency so as they can achieve a common goal. Group or teamwork can be organized according to products that are being produced. The benefits of teamwork include improving the morale of staffs, increase efficiency; increase productivity of the staffs and promotion of innovation Team work improves the morale of the staff by allowing the employee to participate in decision making. The team members are given power to control the flow of work. The success of the hockey players was contributed by the teamwork of the group. According to Michael Jordan, what the team achieved could not be achievable if the players acted individually. Therefore, the success in any activity within an organization is greatly contributed by the efforts of the formulated team works.
Team work creates cohesion among the staffs. Through group and team work, employees interact with one another creating cohesion among them. Interaction among employees leads to exchange of ideas. New ideas in the business promote workflow of the company. When new ideas are well used, they lead to increase in production of the company. Cisco Company is among the companies that have adopted team work in their operation. The adoption of the group and team work in their operation has led to increase in profitability; the profit of the company was reported to have increased with a high margin. This is evident in the miracle of success magazine where through cohesion among the member team, the hockey players won.
Group and teamwork lead to increase in productivity of the companies. Many companies have been reported to have increased productivity after embracing team work. Increase in company productivity lead to an increase in company profit. The manager should ensure that team work is adopted to promote the performance of the company. As company adopts teamwork the production speed also increase. Group and team work also lead to improvement of the quality of the products.
John Maxwell argues that for the past forty years of his hard word to attain success, lack of a great team contributed to his failure of achieving his self actualization goals. He acknowledged that success is not achieved by individual contribution only, but team work plays a crucial role. This mainly shows that in the framework of success, be it in the organization or individual success, teamwork is fundamental. It is worth embracing the teamwork to move up the welfare chain in terms of value gain.
Though group and team work are encouraged, it may be associated with some disadvantages. As people interact through group and team work, it may lead to conflicts. There is a different type of conflict that may arise due to teamwork and group. This includes personality conflict, intergroup conflicts and multicultural conflicts. The conflicts may be due to personal difference or group pursuing different goals. Multicultural conflict may be due to cultural difference among members.
