According to the article, the term globalization is referred to as the increase of global integration, global interlinked environmental and social developments, and global forms of governance. In this case, the author interprets globalization as the increased integration of nation-states and markets and the extension of technology advancement. In addition, globalization is determined by declining geographical boundaries on cultural and social arrangements; the improved dissemination of technologies and ideas; or the transformation of political, cultural, and economic fundamentals of society (Martens and Mohsin 280-281). The article points out that during the transition of globalization, several loopholes are anticipated These loopholes include opportunities for risk, speculations, and uncertainty, which in return may deteriorate the economy of the country. Accordingly, the author conducted a research and found that, weaknesses of globalization outweigh benefits, and hence termed globalization as a negative phenomenon.
In my opinion, I agree with the article that the process of globalization can result into unsustainability if efficient and timely efforts are not established. Though globalization comes with many benefits, such as business connectedness, various constraints are anticipated. For example, an increase in the international trade results to increase in the number of industrialized nations, and hence more amount of pollution. In addition, new emerging industries lead to adverse environmental effects caused by unsustainable international trade and business practices. Therefore, in this case, it is important to consider different issues that may significantly affect the sustainability. These issues include pollution and emission, exploration of natural resources, exchange rates, inflations conflict, politics, and health issues among others.
As expounded above, the term globalization can result to both negative and positive effects of political, economic, and social values. Therefore, various measures need to be put into place to mitigate the negative side of the globalization in order to achieve sustainability in the future.
