In a TED video presentation delivered by the former president of the prestigious organization The American Psychology Association, Martin Seligman he spoke about the eleventh reason to be optimistic. According to Seligman, over the course of history the field of Psychology has undergone significant improvement . However, it still went to a rollercoaster ride in which there are highs and lows. Nevertheless, the speaker still felt that there is promise for the future. This promise is because other field will collaborate towards an effort that is aimed at increasing the level of happiness and the reasons that causes that emotion. These fields were to include technology, design and entertainment.
The speaker believed that while society is able to foster a level of happiness over the course of time, this gradually declines because of instance that discourages people from living. With the development of technological breakthrough like the internet which later on paved the way for communication and expression to flourish it also created a new platform that would enrich and enliven the present emotional status of people. For example, with the development and massive popularity of Facebook, it allowed for people to reconnect and bridge geographical boundaries. At the same time, another design that has been created to foster optimism is the gradual but popular use of dating websites. However, unlike Facebook, the concept of dating websites like OkCupid, Tagged and similar platform this avenue elates emotion and facilitated for what Seligman referred to as eudaimonia or a belief of one thing being “good enough” which increases positive emotions which put forward a new meaning and a new light towards one’s concept or idea of living.
