I agree that Samsung day of service has changed its organization’s culture, engaged employees more, and has improved the understanding of Samsung’s activities. Samsung started offering a day of service in 2014 where its employees would take time off to volunteer. I believe that volunteering is becoming more popular. I agree with the statistics from the U.S. Bureau of Labor that indicate that almost 63 million people volunteered at least once between September 2014 and September 2015. I also agree with the statistics that indicate that 91% of millennials would switch brand to one that is associated with a good cause. I believe that Samsung is trying to have a positive market appeal. In my opinion, Samsung partnerships with over 50 organizations across the U.S provide their employees and their children the freedom to choose where they would wish to volunteer.
I think increasing from one day of service per calendar year to two days of service in each calendar year indicates the success of the initiative and the commitment Samsung has to the program. I feel that matching employee’s donation to a tune of $1,000 per full-time employee in North America boosts the employee’s morale and promotes the image of Samsung as a company that is socially responsible.
I agree that a day of service has influenced the corporate culture at Samsung. I agree with Ann Woo, Samsung senior director of citizenship belief that the day of service has been integrated in the company’s culture as they observe from their excitement as the day of service approaches. Finally, I think it is important that Samsung conduct employee surveys in order to evaluate whether employees are aware of the objectives and the importance of the day of service.
