History of hotel
Best Western Plus Chateau Granville Hotel was founded in 1976 to offer accommodation, restaurant, meeting and conference, downtown hotel, restaurants, and suites. The hotel initially had less than 50 employees but the number has grown to 200. The hotel is privately owned, which has enabled it provide the highest quality service to growing number of patrons from around the world. The hotel is a member of a network of independent hotel operators affiliated to Best Western. This small and informal network of hotel operators eventually grew into modern Best Western chain of hotels founded by M.K. Guerin in 1946. The name “Best western” originated from the fact that most properties were originally in the U.S. west of the Mississippi River. In 2014, Best Western Plus Chateau Granville Hotel received an award for outstanding quality standards in its chain hotel.

The location of the hotel offers the best access to most of the corporate location in the area including St. Paul’s Hospital, Federal and Provincial Courts, and Vancouver Coastal Health.
The hotel recently went green with a multi-million dollar eco-friendly renovation and the owners are positive that their efforts to offer patrons a green and eco-friendly environment will pay off (Meiszner, 2013). The project aimed at reducing the hotel’s environmental footprint, which is in line with Vancouver’s goal of making the city become the greenest in the world by 2015. According to the hotel’s General Manager, Anastasios Theodoropoulos, after the 2010 Winter Olympics, they turned their focus to making Chateau Granville a strictly green hotel property (Meiszner, 2013). Part of the project involved upgrading of the hotel lighting to LED energy saving bulbs. Additionally, they installed electric car chargers in the parking lot for guest with electric cars. The hotel has also installed new washing machines that ensure efficient use of water and detergents, as this would help reduce waste and conserve the environment (Meiszner, 2013). This initiative will enable the hotel to earn more revenue because customers want to deal with eco-friendly hotels.
