Book Review
Tim Sanders offers a moving explanation of personal attitude in the current business environment. To Sanders, a person’s attitude must incorporate three essential aspects which are knowledge, network, and compassion. He urges that in the new economic period the most important aspect is transforming oneself into a better person than in the past. According to Sanders, becoming a better person means exercising the three aspects of seeking knowledge, networking, and being compassionate.
Regarding knowledge, Sanders believes that it is the best resource that a person can acquire. He opines that in cases where persons gain full and deep knowledge in a profession, they can become valuable to others. Accordingly, Sanders opines that people acquire reputation for their knowledge and for sharing that knowledge selflessly with others.
Sanders further discusses networking in respect to a person who always considers uniting people, establishing connections, introducing such connections to different people, and leaving the scene when one is no longer needed. According to Sanders, even after exiting the market, a person’s connection remains. Connection according to Sanders is usually created through smiling a lot, two-handed handshakes, a hug and other basic things that make the positive difference.
On the issue of compassion, the author offers an explanation as to why compassion is so infectious. According to him, once a person is compassionate he/she is able to inspire the same in other people. Further, a person is able to experience excellent moments and becomes likeable (11). In such circumstances, Sanders feels that people always refer their friends to people who they like and ones who make them feel wonderful about themselves.
The book inspires readers to rethink their relationships with other people and enable them to generate respect for all people. The author makes this a crucial aspect of success by suggesting that good businesses are certainly not mutually exclusive. Therefore the book is capable of changing the way people relate with others and shows that love has the ability to change business fortunes for the better.
