Mission
The organization adequately fulfill its mission. The purpose of the Canadian Race Relations Foundation Act of 1991, is “to facilitate throughout Canada the development, sharing and application or knowledge and expertise in order to contribute to the elimination of racism and all forms of racial discrimination in Canadian society” (Canadian Race Relations Foundation, 2016). The mission also states that the foundation will advance their understanding and approaches to harmonious race relationships in order to eliminate racial discrimination.
The organization uses education and training programs in order to provide initiatives in order to end all forms of racial discrimination. Foundations of Equality and Racism has even been integrated into schools in order to assist administrators and teachers to deal with the diversity and racism issues that exist. The organization conducts monthly programs in order to promote the idea of racial equality and eliminate racial discrimination throughout the nation.
Racism is still predominate throughout Canada, however, the organization’s mission is making an impact. The organization is creating awareness regarding racial issues throughout the nation. While the organization may not be completely stopping racism, the organization is creating awareness of different racial issues that exist in today’s society. By creating awareness, the organization is proactively working towards eliminating racism. An organization does not need to completely stop a certain behavior in order to be successful. A successful organization is one that is proactively working towards a goal of eliminating or stopping a certain behavior. By educating the public on different racial issues, the Canadian Race Relations Foundation is proactively working to eliminate racism.
Organizational Importance/Social, Economic, Political context
The organization is responding to racism throughout the nation. The organization focuses on different types of discrimination and provides education and programs in order to eliminate all racial and religious discrimination throughout the nation. Programs attempt to create harmonious race relationships throughout Canada. The Canadian Race Relation Foundation attempts to overcome social barriers when it comes to racial discrimination through the use of education and awareness (Canadian Race Relations Foundation, 2016).
The social and economic context of the organization is to raise money in order to create awareness to eliminate racism. Racism is an ongoing issues throughout society. This organization was created with the purpose of eliminating that problem with the use of educational programs to create awareness on the issues that racism creates throughout society. This organization does not focus on the economic and political issues throughout society, however, it does focus on how racism effects those aspects of society. For example, the Canadian Race Relations Foundation takes part in the National Metropolis Conference, which consists of policymakers that get together and share information regarding societal issues throughout the community (Canadian Race Relations Foundation, 2016).
Website Equity/Funding
Most organizations have areas on their websites where users and the general public can make donations towards their cause. The Canadian Race Relations Foundation does not. This makes it difficult for the organization to receive funds from individual’s who visit their website. In order to gain the most from their website marketing, the organization should make it possible for their users to donate through their website.
The organization main income comes from the investment income earned on original contributions to the organization. The organization also receives funding from sponsorship, donations and contributions, honoraria and fundraising galas. For example, the organization received a $14,660 sponsorship from CIC for ONE: The Mayor’s National Summit on Racial Inclusion Winnipeg. When it comes to their website, however, there is not a location were the general public can donate. By adding a link were people can donate to the organization through their website, the organization may be able to raise more money for their cause.
Employees and community members
The organization has a Board of Directors as well as a staff team. The Board of Directors consist of one Chairperson and eleven additional members. The Executive Director, who serves as the organization’s CEO, manages the daily operations of the Canadian Race Relations Foundation. “The Governor-in-Council, acting on the recommendation of the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration and the Minister for Multiculturalism, appoints all members of the Board and the Executive Director” (Canadian Race Relations Foundation, 2016). The Canadian Race Relations Foundation Act requires all members of the Board of Directors to meet at least twice a years. Lastly, there are twelve staff team members through the organization that are responsible for various duties within the organization.
Canadian Race Relations Foundation also has community networks. These national networks consist of people dedicated to the elimination of racism, as well as other forms of racial discrimination throughout the Canadian society. These community networks consist of approximately 200 individuals throughout Canada.
